2026 World Cup Squad

A mate of mine who gets to watch more A-League than I do reckons he would not be surprised if Eli Adams was at an EPL Club next season. Could he still be a smokey for the Socceroos?
Bro is not going straight to the EPL without a single cap. But yeah def could be a smokey!

Can't find any google results but I swear Adams was in Hannover for a trial training session which then got cancelled.

My updated World Cup Squad, if I was manager:

1. Ryan - LOCK

2. Izzo - Next best

3. Devenish-Meares - Most in-form in A League

4. Circati - LOCK

5. Souttar- LOCK

6. Burgess - LOCK

7. Trewin - Back-up to Circati, and versatile utility

8. Herrington - Back-up to Souttar, and young gun in great form

9. Iredale - Back-up to Burgess, more than 40 games this season in SPL

10. Italiano - LOCK (in the absence of Miller)

11. Bennie - Next best, plus flexibility to play further up pitch

12. Bos - LOCK

13. Behich - Next best, lifts his game in big matches

14. Devlin - LOCK

15. Irvine - Leader and Bundesliga captain despite some deficiencies

15. Balard - Next best option as defensive midfield and >30 games in both the last 2 seasons in Eredivisie

16. Robertson - 37 matches for top team in League 1

17. Irankunda - LOCK (for ability, X factor and set pieces)

18. McGree - LOCK

19. Boyle - Unreliable and frustrating at times but 45 games and 11 goals in SPL means he can't be ignored

20. Hrustic - I don't love him but 30 games and 11 goals/assists is career best form in a decent league, albeit for the bottom team. Regrettably, I just don't see other options being stronger. This spot should be Segecic.

21. Toure - LOCK

22. Sapsford - 45 games, 11 goals and 4 assists in SPL gets him in, in the absence of anyone better

23. Duke - Different option off the bench to chase and harrass or if we need a bigger body/ aerial ability

24. Metcalfe - I don't love him but good enough to get game time in Bundesliga (albeit modest) and is a versatile utility

25. Adams - X factor off the bench to shake things up if needed

26. C Goodwin - Not the player he was but has the experience and nous to be impactful off the bench

OK Devlin is great. Suto and Stensness a little surprising as we're starting to really invite a lot over.

Leonard is very interesting. Then there's the MLS bunch who'll be around soon.

Surely that means Balard hasn't been invited. How disgusting if true!

We're waiting on Ryan, McGree, Circati, Trewin, Rowles, Herrington, Okon, Mabil, maybe Juric.

Hopefully Goodwin is being given some extra days of rest.

I wish someone would update the wiki with all the camp invites.

I think that's it for Sapsford or Jack Iredale. Eventually we've go to stop brining every possible person in and narrow things down.

The panic is get when my eyes first see less preferable picks them the calm of the justified picks!

Really concerned for Balard now. His season ended early enough to get him over but the gesture of inviting Caceres just rubs it in.
I Think poppas system requires a high physical standard and balard is a bit weaker physically

Locks

Ryan, Izzo

Italiano, Souttar, Circati, Burgess, Bos, Behich

Irvine, Metcalfe, O'Neill

McGree, Irankunda, Toure

Incredibly likely

Geria, Degenek, Trewin, Hrustic, Okon, Duke, Boyle

The rest could be picked or dropped based on Popovic's mood or merit.

Robertson and Devlin must be chosen but I can't put it past Popovic to stuff the around.
