The Suits thread

Being a player and being a) a coach & b) an administrator are very mutually exclusive.
Yeah I don't think his aerial ability has much relevance in this role.
Obviously if he does take on this role, I really hope he succeeds. However, this does smell like a publicity appointment rather than a merit based appointment.

I think he would be great. He’s got the connections, knowledge, experience as both a player and administrator and has the reputation and fame to bring some attention and air-time from the mainstream legacy media.

What’s happened to Schwarzer? Wasn’t he going for some position?

I mean at least they have passion for the sport and aren't looking for a cash grab (we hope)

Seems as though the upcoming World Cup is a perfect opportunity for people who have been invisible to the local game for a long time to jostle for position and show how much they love the Strayan sokkah.

Running a sports academy is a different kettle of fish to administering a football federation. Sure he would be a good front man I suppose however scuttling off the middle east for the Qatari dollarydoo's doesn't speak to me of someone who has ever been particularly engaged with the challenges of the pyramid here in Australia.
like I said or I hear the skepticism but despite being a "ex player" no so called admin background you normally expect we have always cried about having "football" people - we persist with a Aussie NT gaffa due to they know our background etcetc well one thing is for sure any notable past player knows of the "bottle necks" in our game, the "politics" - all the wrongs we cry about.
I really can't see what major risk it is having him involved at this level mentioned in the FA.

Sure he may not be perfect for the role but nothing ventured nothing gained.
Better than a unknown "suit" taking the role and we wonder WTF.

Football Australia and APL reach settlement deal and look to move forward united

Football Australia and APL have wiped the slate clean with a significant settlement deal, vowing to unite the sport and stabilise the A-Leagues.

It has taken almost 12 months but Football Australia and Australian Professional Leagues are putting years of disputes to rest, reaching a significant settlement and creating a blueprint to protect the nation’s elite competitions.

Both bodies have also agreed to unite in a bid to stabilise the A-League men’s and women’s competitions through a three-point plan.

Code Sports can exclusively reveal FA and APL have this week reached a financial settlement over claims of historic debts between the two organisations. The figure is speculated to be just short of $1 million.

Financial disputes between the two bodies started after they divorced in December 2020.

Code Sports can report both parties have reached an agreement on the financial matters and are working together to improve the long term stability of the A-Leagues.

It is understood the key areas of focus of the action plan are sports integrity, developing world-leading match officials and improving youth development frameworks and systems.

"key areas of focus of the action plan are sports integrity" - That can only mean pro/rel! 🤔

So Pro/Rel and the dream of NSd is over before it even got a chance.... wonderful;.
Is the claim here that if the fa have more of a vested interest in the a league/APL they’ll be less likely to do anything that’s perceived to not be in its interest?/they’ll stop putting as much effort into “side projects” like the aus championship ?

Pretty much.

FA chairman Anter Isaac said it was a vital move.

“It’s important that Football Australia and the Australian Professional Leagues continue working closely together to strengthen standards across the professional game and support the development of our players, officials and clubs,” Isaac said

He NOT talking about the whole of football anymore its "professionaL clubs" now.... The Aus Champs will somehow morph into Windleys bullshit A1-A2 closed shop, franchise protection league and the dream of hundreds of clubs around Australia will cease to exist.

So, really no difference to the past 48 years?
