I feel like revered it’s the wrong word. If you ask a fan of another club if they’d like their rivalry turned into which church you go to or who you vote for they’d most likely say fuck no.
I'm not catholic but preferred Celtic over Rangers due to Australians being there but Rangers pro British thinking is more to me than the tripe that is all about Celtic. I can't stand either to be honest. They're both delusional as a bully dictator because there's nothing to keep them honest.

As a Protestant with British roots, I should support Rangers but don't. Of course, Celtic fans will say this proves how awful Rangers and their fans are, but if I were Catholic with Irish roots neither would I support Celtic because they are no better, regardless of how much their fans try to split hairs. I would never support a club so heavily defined by religious or political sectarianism, which sadly taints the Glasgow clubs as well as a number of other clubs on the Continent...
You can only say that if you were born and bred in Scotland, forget the roots, it’s living through it night and day, 365 days a year.

At least in Australia that Celtic is popular with Irish-Aussies (of which there are many) and people with a romanticised view of the Irish who hop on the bandwagon. Celtic, PSG, Real Madrid and Barca are all clubs you can follow if you're not really into football but want to be a trendy. You can wear the jersey without keeping taps on recent results/ the ladder because it's almost certain the team is doing well and had a win recently.

There certainly are Catholics and Protestants in Ireland and Scotland (as well as in the diaspora) who don’t support an Old Firm side since other clubs exist. However, in Glasgow you’ll find that every Catholic supports Celtic and every Protestant supports Rangers, with other denominations and faiths (including irreligious people like myself) support one or the other or another club.

A 2003 survey showed that only 10% of Celtic fans were Protestant and only 2% of Rangers fans were Catholic.
Might be time to do a new one. BTW 10% is quite significant in a religious hot bed.
An Aussie calling another league a farmers league, you could not make it up.
The same 2 clubs sharing the trophy every year amongst themselves for the last 42 years is the absolute definition of a farmers league.
