The Medical Room - Injury Updates

If McGree needs a scan then you'd think more has happened than not but precautionary scans happen to just to see the true nature of what happened. They're professional athletes with these facilities constantly available.

These nervous waits are terrible and while the player's welfare is priority, the withholding of information is frustrating.

It'll be a strain most likely if he's getting scans. Hamstrings are usually 4-week injuries unless it's a bad one.

Soft tissue injuries should be rare in training if you have a high performing strength and conditioning team. So this is frustrating given his injury history.

curious where he is in the pecking order

Poppa tried wing back which looked ugly, but he played left back before so with an extended camp could work....not sure he works as an inside forward tho
Goodwin has a good short passing game and pivot. With his older legs he should be alright in those spaces.

Its interesting that the inside forward is certainly not a 10 and definitely not a winger.

Metcalfe suits the inward position while Goodwin the outer but the latter probably isn't too fazed by coming central as a lot of wingers cut in.

Goodwin was used right wing too and it wasn't great. I like him though. His dead ball could be very useful.

I'll take Goodwin before a few others any day. He was responsible for that early Toure post hit against Venezuela. The wing back role was negligent from Popovic but it was another attempt to try things in a practice game. We learned from it.

Not sure about the accuracy but it seems Yazbek is a real chance to miss the World Cup.

Unfortunate for Yazbek as he is a solid player but good for likes of Robertson and maybe Balard.

Still no update on O'Neill.

Hayden Matthews has been ruled out of the World Cup for the Socceroos after sustaining an injury during the pre-camp in Sarasota, Florida. We don't know what type of injury he's sustained yet but it's not considered serious and he'll be out for four to six weeks which ends his hopes of making the final 26-player list.

Can't catch a break Matthews
