Aussies abroad šŸŒšŸ¦˜

Great post. I completely understand why Segecic made his decision.

I don't like Popovic as a coach. I don't like his attitude to players; I don't like the football he coaches.

He had zero qualifications for the job. One decent season at Wanderers when they were given all sorts of first season advantages. After that, relentless mediocrity.

I will be glad to see him gone.
Completely agree mate.

The next Socceroos coach has to be an overseas one for mine.

Trevor Morgan is acting football technical lead which implies that Football Australia doesn't have a permanent technical director and only reiterates the lack of structure in the organisation.
Yep, a permanent technical director is desperately needed. Especially to take the dual citizen issue out of the coach's hands.

The whole Segecic issue could've been avoided if we had a full time permanent TD and we had a national team coach who has actual man-management skills.

The next time they appoint a coach, they should appoint a TD first and then the head coach which the TD will recommend.

Basically the FA are doing what WSW have been doing over the years which is appoint a head coach without any technical insight as to why the coach has been selected in the first place.
Fortunately unlike WSW we have qualified for world cups but we still have more questions and answers with regards of the direction of the national team.

We should find a coach froma country who's citizens we dont want migrating to Australia ... that will confuse the AFL and NRL long enough to allow us to petition for government funding.
"A country whose citizens don't want to migrate to Australia". Gunna be hard to find one of them mate

According to the 2021 Census, over 5.5 million people (22% of the population) in Australia speak a language other than English at home, an increase from 20.6% in 2016. Data showed over 350 languages were used at home, with Mandarin (2.7% of the population) being the most common non-English language, followed by Arabic, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and Punjabi.

We should get a person or people whose job is specifically to scout dual internationals. Look at Morocco for example. The FRMF caps or tries to cap anyone with a drop of Moroccan blood in them. Morocco’s team is full of Belgians, Dutchmen, Frenchmen, Germans and Spaniards (plus a Canadian by birth who was raised in Morocco). In fact, their own captain (Achraf Hakimi) was born and raised in Madrid!

Sorry mate I misread your post. Ever the optimist I thought you wrote "countries whose citizens don't want to migrate to Oz". Hardly any. The Faroe Islands? Iceland? But the ones we don't want? You mean USA?

If in some alternative universe I was a very talented footballer but missed out on the Socceroos, I'd 100% play for Scotland (parents' birthplace) if they asked me, and give 100%. The current Indonesian team for example with so many Indo-Dutch players, they feel the same cos there's certainly no lack of passion in their play.

I'm the opposite; we need someone as manager who cares deeply about Australian football and who is going to be a good custodian of the game, including by taking a pragmatic approach to locking in home-grown players who might be tempted to switch. Graham Arnold certainly did that, and the impression I get is that there are plenty around. Australia is actually doing a pretty good job of producing decent managers at the moment.

I think our luck with foreign coaches has only been good if its a short term tenure

would you prefer pim and holger to farina, ange, arnie and poppa?

Of course if we did get a big name in the short term that might attract dual nationals

Yeah exactly. We should do the same as what Indonesia and the other Dutch B-teams (Aruba, Bonaire, CuraƧao and Suriname) do.

I don’t think any country has citizens who specifically don’t wanna come to Australia. The Faroe Islands and Iceland just currently have low emigration rates (though some did migrate in the past) largely due to their high quality of life (despite the freezing weather and small size of their countries). In saying that both of those countries also have low immigration rates, especially compared to other Nordic countries like Denmark and Sweden.

TBH I never thought I would say it but you have to give a really good look at Kevin Muscat for the next Socceroos manager.

Constant silverware. Attacking but a bit more pragmatic than Ange. Great record, one of the best Australian managers out there.

I personally would rather have an Australian manager if possible. For every Guss Hiddink you're gonna get a Holger and Bert. Just a general sense of apathy tbh coming from those sort of managers who are just in it for the paycheck.
