Vive La France: French Football discussion thread

I saw 2 games from Ligue Un over the weekend.

The first one was Lens v Angers and it's English language commentary was done by a guy called Matt Spiro who is Ligue Un's lead commentator for their international broadcast....

He's also very well known football journalist and author who is based in France and is regarded as a leading expert on French football.

As you'd expect his knowledge on French football from a commentator perspective is extensive....

The second game I saw was between Nice and PSG played down on the beautiful Côte D'Azur...

It's English language commentator was also very good, in fact he was excellent with a fantastic knowledge of the two clubs and the French league in general. One if the best commentators I've come across watching Ligue Un...

Who was he?

Some fella called Simon Hill!

This is an article on Le Foot about Espérance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne (ESTAC), commonly known as Troyes FC in Ligue 2 in France.

The stable mate in the City Football Group to Melbourne City...

Flying high in Ligue 2 and looking good for promotion.

English footballers who have made the short journey across the English Channel to play in France.....

Well as a football administrator he wasn't everyone's cup of tea but we can look past that because as an out and out footballer he was without doubt one of the greatest of his era and some might say of all time....

Michel Platini

I feel sorry for Toulouse fans. Twice in the last week they've travelled up in big numbers to Lens in Northern France in big numbers and lost. Lost 3-2 in the League after being 2-0 up and then losing 4-1 on Tuesday in the semi-final of the Coupe de France..

It's a 900 km journey. 9 hours by car or about 7-8 hours by train....

And they can afford promotion and relegation with such vast distances? Sacre blue!

you saying its all too hard KW ?
Tell you what - the place a full of whingers and more so couldn't bothered pulling their fingers out here and spoilt precious treasures.
There is cheap return flights always online IF driving is too far - I agree to Perth massive, I've done Adelaide Syd x 17hrs, if you want to you can do it.
Don't forget the euro travellers be it by car, fuel return costs, accoms, food, buy something or not.
Same applies here plus talking salaries we're in better position than many abroad.

Not saying it’s too hard, just pointing out that in Aus you’re looking at double, triple or quadruple 900km, and as FUL said, there is no high-speed rail.

And that’s not even the longest away trip possible in the Coupe de France. Overseas French teams compete so if a team from the Loyalty Islands of New Cal play a team from Dunkirk that’s a gigantic difference.
