Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

The kids did well but Oakleighs ball movement was horrible, they probably dont even win if Guest isnt playing. They stand around like statues and wait for set pieces.

We have some talent but lets not kid ourselves, Heidelberg would beat these kids by 10. This cant be our plan for May!
Again Im not sure I agree.. Heidelberg is toothless without a striker... and now that that Καραγκιοζη Sozer is being found out they are leaky at the back too...

What are you talking about?! You can’t take liquor from the social club to the stadium. Full stop
???? We do it all the time? I mean I got a Pepsi with my souva yesterday but If I wanted a scotch I would have just poured the shot into the Pepsi can.... or the plastic cup with whatever other mixer you want... they aren't going to taste it :)

I hope you all enjoy watching us play at Port Melbourbe next week. Again, no reason given.

And no reason given as to why the draw for this year could not have catered for our inability to play at home. That first round should have been at home. And that Bentleigh game away.

It never ends with the shit we have to put up with as fans

I’d rather break the rules properly than use chicanery to get around it.

Anyway, what if you only drink beer?!!

I believe the fixtures are randomly drawn now. I think FV should make some allowances for some fixtures. For instance, giving South a home fixture early on due to the Grand Prix, playing the Preston/South fixture on a Friday/Saturday night in prime time early in the season, etc. However, the draw should be largely randomly drawn with only some amendments for certain high profile fixtures.

From what I understand, South tried to get the Bentleigh fixture reversed, but Bentleigh would only accept if it were played on a Friday night, and we were playing the Solomon Kings 2 days prior in the Melbourne hub. I heard the club made a decision to protect the 3 points rather than play with a weakened side.

Again … it makes me angry that because clubs like Oskleigh and Heidelberg can’t ‘afford’ security, our club should be made to suffer against Preston.

Both Preston and South have had NO trouble when we play each other.

Its crazy to think the season starts in Feb and by the time we get to June we would have only watched our proper team play twice at home (assuming we dont throw away the melb city game)

The Melbourne City Youth match is must win. We cannot afford to throw that match.

There is another issue that the Football Department will need to deal with is that at the end of May, the South players may have played over 30 matches! They will need to be rested in June for at least 1-2 weeks in order to help manage their bodies and minds in order to remain fresh for the remainder of the season. We could see players rested strategically throughout the month of June. Its the only way so they don't burn out by September.

The June question is interesting. Im looking at our fixtures and we have a break between June 7 and June 28. Any reason why?

Thats plenty break.

We play Altona at Lakeside on Sunday 7th June and then we face Bentleigh away on Friday 19th June.

I checked Football Victoria's calendar, and it states that the weekend commencing 14th June is a cup fixture round. That weekend has been set aside for the semi finals of the Dockerty Cup. Either way, we may not get a break that weekend as we may need a full strength team to play that weekend.

We could rest some players against Altona (7th June at Lakeside) or Green Gully (28th June at Lakeside).

Resting players is all going to come down how far behind we slip in the league, it simply may not be an option if we want to play finals.

The only way to remain in the top 6 at the end of May is to win our next 2 games. It starts getting very hairy if we drop points to st albans and melb city.

As long as we take those 2 fixtures seriously and collect the maximum 6 points, we will be able to minimise the damage incurred during that 3 week period in May.

Its a killer that we lose the george cross and avondale games. Its getting very tedious not being able to see our team play live at home. No disrespect to the kids but i will not attend those games if the lineup is like yesterdays.

George Cross would have been a good crowd as well.

Mate the cup draw is random and as to why we are playing at Port instead of Lakeside, I would suggest it is either a scheduled maintenance issue or some other midweeks shenanigans...

As for the Bentleigh game, again random draw and as IF Bentleigh would have agreed to reverse the fixture....

If we make the OFC Pro League Grand Final (Sunday 24th May), then we'll pretty much see the Starting XI from the Oakleigh match face Avondale the day after it (Monday 25th May).
