Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

With Auckland winning 2-0 over PNG Hekari, they have mathematically locked in top spot in the regular circuit series.

If Hellas beats Bula FC, we move to 22 points and cannot be caught by Bula or Solomon Kings. South Island could still mathematically finish second, but they would need to win their last two matches and Hellas would need to lose to PNG Hekari and Tahiti United. Highgly unlikely.

Win today, and we have pretty much 99% locked in second spot with two matches to spare.

Unless we are missing something no differerence between finishing 2nd or 3rd.

Just win today.

No way we can send all 11 back and only have a backup keeper as the bench for last 2 games. Id say we send 7 first 11 players back. Add them to dovison papadimitriou Ethan and skapoulas if fit and that's the 11 if not skapoulas then agelatos or durso comes in. Could maybe stretch the bench in ofc by sending 8 back and having 3 plus keeper on the bench

That’s the win we needed to lock in the Leaders Group series.

We totally dominated Bula in the first half. There truly was a gulf in class and ability between both teams. Sinisa set up the team well as Bula was constantly on the back foot. They hardly got forward and when they did they did nothing with the ball.

Understandable that the players dropped the tempo in the second half under that heat and humidity. Not too fussed about given we didn’t concede in the end.

Good result. Now we focus on PNG Hekari on Saturday afternoon.

Get our best 11 on a plane back to Melbourne asap. The last 2 are dead rubbers.

Question is what has the Hellas Football Department organised for the Oakleigh match and the PNG Hekari and Tahiti OFC matches.

For the Oakleigh match, you have the following players back in Melbourne: Dovison, Skapoulas, O’Sullivan, Durso, Saristavros, Papadimitriou, and the Angelatos brothers. Too many youngsters for a tough match against Oakleigh.

I would send back Lopez, Eliopoulos, Jankovic, Lampard, Pasquali, Giannakopoulos, Mikkola, Bonada and Uchida to Melbourne for the Oakleigh match. Second spot in the OFC Pro League is all but mathematically secured.

I would leave Charlston, Shalamanov-Trenkov, Inglese, Coveny, Lackay, Painter-Andrews, Mesorouni, Cocks, Menelaou, Gorr-Burchmore, Leech, Swibel, Pope, and Singh. These players should be good enough to defeat the bottom placed PNG Hekari.

Id say you're pretty close here, however i think we can only afford to send 8 seniors back at the maximum as you'd want to have 3 outfield players plus a keeper on the bench. We saw how cooked the boys were in the Auckland game with only 2 outfielders on the bench.

It’s a good point and that lack of bench depth hurt us in the searing heat of Fiji.

How do you even try and work out who will start on Sunday against Oakleigh.

It could be anyone from who started against Bula FC to the team that started against Altona Magic (excluding Bonada and Lopez).

I reckon 5-7 are on the flight back as we speak.... We're gonna have to start camping out at Tullamarine to be able to tell who we are watching on the weekends. hahahahahah

One thing I do know is whoever is on the social media "match day" post is odds on to NOT even be in the country...
