2026 World Cup Squad

3 goals from open play in 1700 minutes seems a big drop in form to be honest

Mind u we learnt against cameroon what happens if we dont have a specialist penalty taker haha
Even though Martin Boyle has underperformed in expected goals and is on par with the given expected assists value he's still good in chance creation so could play in attacking midfield in addition to as a striker.

Yer nah
He hardly transfers club form to NT for ages.
Runs around like mad lose’s ball more than making it happen.
it’s above his depth even more now - I really don’t know how you guys don’t see it sorry.

Boyle was never suited to Popovic's system then his form nosedived at club level too. It's too much to ask from him now and we have better options anyway.

Martin Boyle has had good form for Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership this season though and would also be at his first major tournament for the Socceroos after missing the last two cycles through injury.
Doesn't matter. He has better seasons and good spells of form in the past and then performed poorly for the national team.

Unfortunately though, I think Boyle will make the squad when he really really shouldn't.

As a winger he should be able to at least dribble or score an opened goal. Right now he couldn’t do neither. Popa needs a forward who can take on the players but Boyle usually got beaten by any players infront of him.

The only positive about him is that he might be able to make a run and cut back to danger zone and take a penalty. Even a set piece or cornor he has been poor lately too.

Wyscout data for the A league is now out. Here is Paul Okon, little in the final third which is understandable for a specialist 6 but good progression and ok defense. His defense needs to improve if we stick to a 2 man midfield with irvine in there (who can provide in the final third)

my god, that name

Here is Scicluna and....crikey

I've seen plenty of players where I hope they could play straight away in the big 5 (of course, back the players every time) but I've never seen a player where they look a real chance....should probably go bundesliga 2 or something first just in case

Behich will be there. Barely makes defensive actions, but nearlly all successful. Good at advancing the ball at a league level. Honestly the last 12 months have been some of the best I've seen him

Max baland, quite all round apart from final product. So good in a 4-3-3 where there is less pressure to compliment irvine

Devlin has to be in the squad for me. Unbelievable defensive quality which makes him ideal to bring on late in a game to defend a lead. Better progressive abilities than i thought, though only through passing, maybe worth a try though

No surprises with Irvine's wagon wheel. He is capable of very high skilled actions, but he cannot do low skilled actions consistently enough to trust him in build up. So he has low progression, (progressive passes and carries). He also has low short and medium passes because he isn't trusted on the ball until they are deep in the half and he can try one of his high skill moves that occasionally pays off and is devastating even at a high level. He has a high dribble success and high smart passes, for Australia he also scores goals. He however has little tackles+intercepts meaning he has two weaknesses that need to be covered in a 2 man midfield

Nisbet I didn't know what to expect because I didn't get a chance to find a stream of his this year.He has had all round good performance and is listed on the role ranking page as the best DM in the league. Needs to find a better league. Probably not enough progressive passing to partner irvine and a 160cm central mid in poppas system gives me nightmares haha. If the socceroos ever play higher on the pitch he might come back into the fold though

Pretty spectacular wagon wheel from mcgree which is expected. Wins turnovers high, causes headaches in the box, lots of end product. Listed on the role ranking page as the 4th best inside forward in the league, made for poppas system

Robbos wagon wheel is interesting. I didn't expect his defense to be that good, but I also didn't expect his progression to be so weak? Part of it could be that half his games he has played as a half space attacking mid rather than a central mid. Lots of danger around the penaltyarea and he has added defensive starch to his game
