Women's NST thread

Question out of curiosity - I'm going to try and tier the community level / non-competitive adult levels. I'm thinking 3 tiers, essentially:

01. Competitive Youth
02. Masters
03. Miniroos

EDIT - Actually, lets make that 4 tiers, using Capital Football as its example:
01. Competitive Youth (NPL > Junior League)
02. Masters
03. SAP
04. Miniroos

Hang on - will scrap SAP as it only appears in one year on Capital Football's results/fixtures/Dribl from what I see.

Auckland FC doesn't have an A-League Women's side yet, and neither do Macarthur.
Am starting from scratch using a blank version of the men's template - it's easier to delete select clubs, than to add everything from scratch
Macarthur have a women’s NPLW team (Bulls Academy) but not a Dub side. Auckland don’t have a women’s team yet but will in the future. Sydney United don’t have a women’s team either.

Essentially the ALW is the ALM plus Canberra minus Auckland and Macarthur.

Yep, will be including them at the highest levels they are found at.

Also taking an opportunity to expand the mens one as much as I can too:
  • Australia Cup will have it's own sheet within the document now - I will list under each year a state, which will mean they've entered the Australia Cup that year in that state. The reason I'm doing that, is because there is potential for some clubs to enter under one member federation one year, and then another one in the next (eg, if Yoogali SC form a proper mens side next year, they may possibly take part through Waratah Cup in NSW - whereras previously it would be via ACT - so it's something I wanted to gather data for.
  • I'm going to spend some time state by state, association by association, finding websites (such as MyGameDay) going as far back as I can for both Mens and Womens and getting the leagues database sorted. For example - starting with ACT (alphabetically, and also the smallest member federation), Pre 2022-current is available via Dribl, and 2014-2021 is available via MyGameDay)
  • I again am also tempted - whilst it doesn't exist - list the clubs in a separate "Cups" sheet for the Womens pyramid that took part in the each respective state's Cup Competition (should they exist) to sort of gauge who would be taking part in a Womens Australia Cup if it did exist, etc.

I feel like we're at the stage that we need to implement a national competition for the women's NPL leagues.

An NST for women's seems almost zero chance today, but what about a post NPL season Champions League competition? Or the Women's Australia Cup that was on Johnson's to do list?

Do you have a preference? How many spots would each federation receive?

If it's a knockout cup, 32 teams is probably too much. Would 16 be ok? Would you then exclude the A-League teams?

Or a Champions League. Would you just have the eight NPL winners? Play a single league? Or two groups?
As much as it os waranted the first hurdle is sortign out the Womens Aleague season and professionalism I feel.. Can't have players forced to play for two clubs per season to make it fionancially worthwhile and have a meaningful Australia cup

First we would need professionalism since a lot of A-League players play NPL in the offseason. Once we get a pro Dub then women’s equivalents for the Championship and of course the Australia Cup would be the next step.

Hopefully this would entice NPL clubs to pay attention to the women’s game. Sydney United for example are nowhere to be seen in the women’s game (other than a Facebook account called Sydney United Girls I can’t find any info about a senior women’s team).
Sorry answered before seeing this... yep, what HSP said :)

Agree that the Dub needs full-time professionalism but with only six months between now and the start of A-League Women season 2026-27 it's not sustainable to follow the timeframe proposed by the PFA in the Ready for Takeoff roadmap.

It could come by 2028 though if the APL and FA lock in. Make 2026–27 the season that clubs begin offering more and more pro contracts, 2027–28 the one where the majority of the league are on pro contracts, before full professionalism by 2028 for the 2028–29 season.
