NPL 2026

BT connor (Preston) and CB smith (Fawkner/Moreland/Brunswick juventus) in Melb are also quite close off the top of my head
Yeah there'd be quite a few like that across divisions in Victoria - if I recall correctly, there's 3 different Altona clubs in the space of 300 or so metres (4 fields all next to eachother south of the golf course)

It is a shame that the Preston vs South Melbourne match falls on the Orthodox Easter weekend. What would have been a very large crowd at BT Connor Reserve on a Friday night will struggle at a Saturday 3pm time slot.
I’ve seen something that “High Risk” fixtures will be played during the day in Victoria

Whata joke

Club announced 3,958 official crowd for the Sydney United vs Marconi game.

That was our biggest regular season fixture crowd since 2005 when we played Bonnyrigg at home.
Very good for a regular season game in a fixture which regularly occurs every season. ie It wasn’t a novelty etc

Yes everything lined up etc re the long weekend, the United winning streak, top of the table clash etc but it does go to show what smart fixturing can do for attendance especially at this level re the championship.

As decent as crowds were during the championship they could have been much better with better scheduling. Still maintain Marconi’s biggest crowd last year probably came in the npl finals v Sydney united not in the championship. Maybe the Alexander game could have beaten it if not for the storms and weather delays etc anyway, I digress

Using the NPL only (as the crow flies, centre circle to centre circle, and not counting shared ground derbys):

ACT: Queanbeyan City and Monaro Panthers (Queanbeyan / Riverside Derby) @ 350m
NSW: Marconi and Sydney United @ 1470m
VIC: Dandenong City and Dandenong Thunder @ 5320m

Others will probably have to share what the biggest 'derby' matches are in each NPL as it stands, as I'd only be speculating - but give me some time to get the competitions added to https://map11.net/ and I'll work out at least the closest non-shared venues in each NPL for 2026

SA: Croydon and West Adelaide @ 1934m
WA: Dianella White Eagles and Bayswater City @ 4500m
QLD: Eastern Suburbs and Olympic FC @ 5036m
NNSW: Adamstown and Newcastle Olympic @ 986m - although Broadmeadow Magic and Kahibah also 1017m apart
TAS: Launceston City and Launceston United @ 6542m
Have added closest in venues in each NPL now. By closest to shortest:

ACT
Nth NSW
NSW
SA
WA
QLD
VIC
TAS

I stand corrected. Well I stand by what i said, Sydney united would have to be the biggest club to have never won it.

Would also probably argue that despite their history and knights having 2 titles and United 0, Sydney United would probably have to be considered the strongest/premier Croatian club in the Australia nowadays. Been pretty consistently there or thereabouts since the 90s in the nsl and into the post nsl state league era where as knights have slowly declined as a force on the field since the mid 90s
What are we counting as titles? I'd say the league should be titles, not the GF.

Nsw crowds will likely eclipse Victoria as football vic has its stupid "high risk games cant be played at night" policy. So this weekend Preston v SM goes head to head with another 100 games in Melbourne and irrespective what Preston announce it will be the lowest crowd the 2 teams have had in recent years.

For Orthodox Easter Friday evening would have killed the crowd though, Saturday 3pm is the only "workable" compromise this weekend...

Im pretty sure Green Gully and St Albans are pretty close?

The Championship if its done right can redefine the football landscape in this country.
yer yer I hear you but we are relying on a new FA regime my friend that you don't hear a whimper to date......
I hope the Clubs are keeping the burners on them for yep Championship is the fuse for our semi pro game to step out and get somewhere finally.

Preston vs South is being played on Saturday 3pm so BOTH sets of fans can go to church on Friday night and Saturday night... sheesh, talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

Burgers, Oakleigh and Bentleigh are ALL playing on Saturday early afternoon too, are THEY high risk?

Only Sunday match this round are two clubs not celebrating Easter.

Monday night was the obvious play here. Would have been a monster crowd but again the fv policy of no night games for high risk games puts thats to bed.

Lets not talk about the comical preston v bergers going directly head to head with the f1 grand prix...because high risk must be 3pm!

Oh well good luck to Brunswick Leonidas who has the Monday night against Knights, everyone will flock there.

Monday night monster crowd? In Preston? Like we got a crowd last week on a Tuesday? After not having played at home all season mind you.

Good luck to Brunswick and all the "good of the game" fans, I only go and watch South games these days.

Monday night would have been huge. South v dandy city in the city is in no way comparable to preston v south.
