We agree but I don’t think that changes how coaches select Matildas squads.

Based on who they like or are used to. Realistically our squads will always usually be heavily dominated by players overseas. It’s the same as how Japan, the Netherlands or Scandinavian countries have great teams but their national teams don’t have many homegrown domestic players in them. Professionalism wouldn’t change that and it hasn’t there, however it has helped them develop better talents, increase the quality of the league and give the players the pay they deserve.

Personally if I were to pick any national team’s squad I would pick a team of the best 26 players at the current period in time, regardless of who they play for or how many caps or fans they have.

Even though the vast majority of the Young Matildas playing list called up to the under-20 Women's Asian Cup in Thailand comes from the Dub very few players actually get promoted from the Tillies farm system to the senior national team setup from A-League Women sides.

Football Australia give Matildas head coaches free rein to pick the playing lists as they see fit, and in doing so foster the current selection policy prioritising the old guard over promoting from the Tillies farm system.
 
Claire Adams yellow carded in the 71st minute for Newcastle Jets for an argument, becoming the first Newcastle Jets player and second player overall to receive one.
 
Sophie Hoban yellow carded in the 83rd minute for Newcastle Jets for a foul, becoming the second Newcastle Jets player to receive one this match.
 
Zoe Karipidis forced off with injury in the seventh minute of second half stoppage time for Newcastle Jets and replaced by Olivia Page.
 
Danielle Turner scores in the seventh minute of second half stoppage time to regain the lead for Melbourne City and make the score 2-1. Karly Roestbakken with the assist.
