DR Congo defeated Jamaica 1-0 after extra time in their World Cup qualifying inter-confederation playoff to become the penultimate team to qualify for the World Cup, with Axel Tuanzebe's goal in the 100th minute the only goal of the match. Graham Arnold and Iraq in action against Bolivia next in the second of the two inter-confederation playoffs to decide the last team that makes it to the World Cup proper.

But you are using the wrong critieria to criticise the current situation in relation to minnows.

The World Cup has ALWAYS given weaker confederations more slots than what their ability warrants.

It can be both - Italy can only blame themselves - but the qualification format could be better, because situations like with Sweden should not be happening in qualifying.

I can't understand why UEFA can't just have 8 groups with the top 2 qualifying from each - it's not like they never utilise uneven groups.
