More draws between the group teams but that 2010 qualifying late winner in Bahrain really set things up. The Japan way goalles draw was fine afterwards.

Just realise the Bresciano miss in Uzbekistan was redeemed by a Bahrain winner. Uzbekistan went close and may have had a penalty. We walked that qualifying where a goalless draw in Qatar was fine. A deeper look it was more our wins to just pull away bit by bit. Qatar had been going alright and then lost 4 in a row.

We were actually ahead with a game in hand as the 5 teams meant a team sitting out and we played just once on MD 1.

I didn't realise how crazy group B was on the final day. Iran led in SK only to concede late and fall from 2nd to 4th while North Korea held away to Saudi to seal qualification.

Think it was our only loss at Stadium Australia for nearly 2 decades.
Just taking a look at results now. I won't include friendlies - but that was our first competitive home loss since the 1998 OFC Nations Cup final in Brisbane against New Zealand.

Interestingly, we then only had one more home match victory before the next one: a loss to Kuwait in Asian Cup qualifying in Canberra 9 months later.

Our next home competitive loss was South Korea during the 2015 Asian Cup.

Since then we have lost another two home competitive matches: Japan in Stadium Australia in 2022, and then the Bahrain game on the Gold Coast in 2024 that led to Arnie leaving.

I'm tempted to put a full "competitive matches at home" results thingy together now. This will include:
  • World Cup Qualifiers
  • Asian Cup Qualifiers
  • Asian Cup Finals tournament matches held in Australia
  • Oceania Nations Cup Finals tournament matches held in Australia
  • Olympic Games (1956 only)
