Women's Asian Cup general discussion thread

Does that mean we shouldn’t bother because, you know, they don’t get many people at games in France.
No and I agree we really need to up our game, but I’m saying it’s not like the league is dead and soulless. It’s alive and well, and growing.

I think we need to up our game advertising too. I don’t see too many ads on TV or online or billboards advertising the Dub. I also have proposed on here that fans who go to a certain amount of ALW games could get discounts on Matildas tickets.

I don’t think anyone is saying that the league is dead what I’m advocating is that the profile of both the league and the players needs to be lifted so that we take advantage of the following that the Matildas have and not let the ‘glow’ from the Asian Cup be frittered away.

The A-League Women is the number one league in Asia in terms of coefficients though so the profile is there but players won't want to go and play in the Dub because it's still semi-professional and it would be more lucrative to play elsewhere.

how do any of you expect support/crowd growth whilst the game keeps being divided ?
Whilst there keeps being this 2 channel football outlook you will keep wishing what could be more and come up with washy solutions.
I'm not sure what you mean, LFC?

But how about raising the profiles of players already in the league.

That would be good. I think we’re starting to see some of that through social media. Ayana Aoyagi has over 10,400 followers as a backup goalie who’s never played a single game for Melbourne City. Coco Majstorović (shortened to Coco Majić on her socials) who is also a backup keeer (at Canberra United) also has a big following. Both do content like vlogs and Coco also does cooking, Q&As and stuff.

It shouldn’t be up to the players themselves to do the promoting. The only club promotions I see on Facebook are of the generic type put out by the APL which often feel AI generated.

seriously this is pie in the sky stuff.
Aoyagi - wow over 10k followers and a reserve GK omg - christ my no name daughter has near that - I giggle and say do you know where all these so called followers come from ? tim buck 2 ? Japanese background, 5k could be people who hardly follow the game but the person let alone the amount who click follow for the heck.
Is that kind of hairbrain data what one would summarise growth ?
Seriously.

The A-League Women used to be called the W-League until September 2021 when it transitioned to its current identity, and we as the fans have started to affectionately refer to it as the Dub.
Did the APL call it the Dub zone or from SM input ?
OK found some sauce
"The Dub" as Slang: Fans and supporters began calling the competition "The Dub" simply because it was previously named the W-League (W = "double-u" = "dub").

Mind you doesn't make sense to me - W-League - I suppose uneducated aussie slang pronounces it dubleu hence the Dub

I thought it was a Paramount concoction but whatever it’s a step in the right direction to have a program dedicated to the ALW.
There needs to be more innovation from the APL.
