My assertion actually annoys the hell out of me. They should reject playing for Australia because the clubs of their parents were kicked to the kerb … with the added insult of having been told their clubs held back the game for 30 years!

In other words, they should reject the Socceroos, arguably, for Left Wing reasons!

Scroll his twitter haha. Mostly anti trump, which isnt political even amongst liberal australians. But amongst croatians it would be off putting. Plenty of other communities are conservative enough in australia to be pro trump, who knows if triantis family and community is like that

I also think thats a mischaractarization of the band played waltzing matilda unless you literally define patriotism as equivalent to being pro war and militarism. Its an edge case tho because it isnt patriotic either but used in a patriotic way since it appears in most anzac days

Sure many songs take on a special place for nationalists and ultra patriots... Listen to a song about a pretty girl playing with flowers fro example and tell me you dont visualise the SS marching into Warsaw?



There is a certain amount of pro-war and militarism in patriotism would you NOT agree? After all staking a claim that your own country is better than anyone else must lead to the conclusion that your own citizens are better than citizens of another nation ... not exactly left wing ideologies as far as I understand them.

With the trend of Gen Z and Gen Alpha males increasingly swinging hard to the right, and Europe also doing the same, the reality is this will become normal, if it isn’t already. This trend is strongest amongst working class communities from which most footballers come. Also happening in South America, Korea etc too.

Additionally unlike Oz, the far right in Europe is supported more by young voter than boomers. In a few years, if current polling trends continue will have harder right govts in UK, France etc (Spain a bit of an outlier currently. Italy is already hard right conservative. Not saying this is a good thing, just that this is the trend line. All this will increasingly bleed into football.

Again, not exactly left wing songs and as you said, the exact opposite of patriotic... irrespective of if brain dead Yanks choose to ignore the lyrics and just belt out the refrain at NFL games :)

I don't want to derail the thread, but in general the Millennials and younger gens, vote progressively when including both genders.

However, there is a disparity between more progressive female voters compared to conservative males in the younger gens.

I'm very tied up with political activism off forum.

With the gender disparity in political views there is a surplus of heterosexual left wing females and right wing males, who struggle to form relationships with each other. This is because they find the other surplus, unattached, single gender's political views to be repugnant.

And then they go and partner with Asian women etc. Basically stealing the women from Asian men.

Reading this the impression you get is less that he was cut with Poppa re not being selected as he clearly stated he was in the frame for a World Cup with the Socceroos, and instead more that Croatia came calling and his dad was pumped and he said yes and jumped ship.
