Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

Id LOVE to hear some left wing patriotic songs..... cant think of any that fit the bill.
Its common accross the anglosphere

We are one but we are many by the seekers is a multicultural anthem

Waltzing matilda sumpathizes with the poor swagman over the heavy handed landowner who brings 3 troopers, as such it was used as a union anthem. Banjo patterson had socialist leanings

The australian national anthem was written to replace God save the queen by someone with unknown political leanings before the existance of the la our party. However, it was adopted by the labour patty and it roots love of country in our natural beauty rather than milatirism like most anthems (have u seen how girt we are!) The second vs also contains the line "for those whove travelled across the seas weve boundless plains to share

Although politically neutral, i still call australia home is written by a (soft) leftie. Tho the author was criticized by lgbt activists for not being outspoken enough

Another edge case is "the band played waltzing matilda" which often appears in anzac day marches

In the usa "this land is your land" is about how thr land belongs to everyone and sympathizes with those who have nothing

America the beautiful is an anti imperialist song

Even in england "jerusalem" is a bit of a bizarre patriotic song, but its main message is that a Christian country should treat workers better

I thought you meant patriotic songs specifically, not songs about fairness and equal rights and sharing our "girtness" :P

Woodie Guthries "this land is your land" is a counter culture cry AGAINST patriotism btw, as is "the band played waltzing matilda" - a cry for the futlity of war and jingosim...

And the old men march slowly, old bones stiff and sore
They're tired old heroes from a forgotten war
And the young people ask, "what are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question

Im curious how u are defining patriotism? These are all songs frequently sung by people out of love for their country and most written with love of country as a motive

I dont think what u said is correct on guthrie who wrote it as an alternative patriotic song

I also think thats a mischaractarization of the band played waltzing matilda unless you literally define patriotism as equivalent to being pro war and militarism. Its an edge case tho because it isnt patriotic either but used in a patriotic way since it appears in most anzac days

The Band Played Waltzing Matildas is fantastic. The Dublineers version is my favourite.

I'm not as smart as others can you break that down for me?
Well look at this way, Volpato didn't progress through the Aus system, was cut from multiple youth Aleague sides and hasn't played for the national team at any level. If anything his football career is in spite of Aus Football. He left for Italy young, was nurtured at Roma, brought through their youth national program and is backing himself and holding out for a callup to the seniors. We want him to play for Aus cause he's Australian, not because he's a product of Australian football. In that sense it makes complete sense for him to represent Italy, even if he never receives a callup just his availability is representation of depth the Italian FA have created.

Now Segecic and Triantis represent the exact opposite. Australian football gave everything, only for them to shit on it.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I believe both boys come from families who are right wingers who hate what has happened to Woke Australia.

Trisntis has about 7 siblings. Only ultra Conservative types do that these days. As for the Croat, well when there is a whole diaspora that largely supports the Ustashe, what can you say?

Thats interesting. I not gary moretti who is in charge of the national teams and therefore in charge of keeping dual nationals in the fold has a heck of a lot of politics on his feed.

Its a bit unprofessional and we need to eek out every advantage we can get

I really doubt they are even thinking about “woke” but who knows?
