I think this has been the case for a little while. Having said that no one has really kicked the door down and demanded selection. There are still just a bunch of players who are about the same level as each other, and it is just personal preference.

There were a lot of moves in the off season, followed by a lot of injuries and lack of minutes. Up front we had Carter, Stama, Botic, Yengi, Goodwin who all dropped off. Milanovic is nowhere to be seen. Ballard's team has gone from mid table to relegated. Nisbett has been unable to pull his side into promotion contention. Farrell and Matthews injured and not playing. Even Sapsford and Segacic (before he defected), they've had decent seasons and minutes, but are back to being sometimes starters.

Any of these could have gone differently and been right in contention. The positives moves have been Bos, Italiano, Toure and Robertson coming back into the side for Cardiff. Still not really a great success rate.

Okon looks good in a dominant side but has the Teague (let's not provide an outlet for the CBs when under pressure trait). Will still get ranked well - but the difference in approach is marked when you compare him to Balard and Nisbet or even Burgess at the Jets. Not ready for the Socceroos and definitely not ready for the World Cup.

Farrell is back from injury and playing every week - albeit out of position.

beach has not been that great. Was awesome before but has dropped a lot too

That could be true, I can't profile players well enough to disagree on your point.

I will say, it isn't like Ballard, Nisbet or Farrell have kicked the door down. Relegated with NAC, mid table with Roda, doing well with SFC, there isn't much distinction here for me. If Ballard was picked instead of Okon I would have the same shrug of the shoulders. A loan move to play for WSW while we finish last isn't getting you past 80 cap Behich who just scored to send us to the world cup.

My thoughts:

Gauci > Beach
Balard > Okon-Engstler
Sapsford > All forwards bar Irankunda
Bennie > Karacic
Rowles > Degenek, Geria

Degenek, Geria, Behich, Mabil all very meh.

Velupillay, Boyle, Juric very lucky.

I wanted to see T. Yengi.

If Suto can be brought in Segecic should have been a no brainer (spilt milk)

This squad feels very weak, particularly for depth.
Boyle , Hrustic ,Geria, Okon (very poor against Colombia) what ta hell Popa???

Where are Sapford, Balard, Irvine, ??

So we got no chance with Volpato?

Absolutely a difference in profiles between the ever present Balard, Nisbet and Burgess with Okon (and Teague before him). The first three have shown they don't go missing in tough games. They consistently offer an outlet. Okon is good in protecting the ball when he has it - but he doesn't help out the defence when needed - in fact he goes missing.

As for Farrell - I would pick him if for nothing else for the lessons Popovic can teach Irankunda from intra squad matches. Bos is in on the plane barring injuries. We know what Behich can do - what's the harm.

Not sure on this one. Probably close to what was expected? Robertson and Herrington are good inclusions.
POV the squad comes out when I’m working and I’ve missed a whole discussion lol.

What’s Zac Sapsford gotta do to get picked? No Antonio Arena or Cristian Volpato either. Not sure what happened with those negotiations. Nishan Velupillay being there is an eyesore, he’s got two goals and one assist in this entire season.

I knew Ante Šuto would get picked and I’m all for it! As soon as it was revealed he’s part Aussie and moved to Hibs I knew we’d try and cap him. Nice to see Lucas Herrington in there too!

Ok suggestion time for everyone. These are the players that are not in the mod, so will need to be replaced:

Nishan Velupillay
Ante Šuto
Alexander Robertson
Paul Okon-Engstler
Kai Trewin
Jacob Italiano
Lucas Herrington

Who should take their spots?
I can agree to disagree on Vellupillay but I would have tried Eli Adams and would have taken Sapsford over Boyle. Balard, Nisbet or Burgess over Okon-Engstler

That said - I also wouldn't have Izzo - too many technical flaws that will be found out if he gets time at the World Cup.

That aren't already in the squad? Does it matter if they're injured?
I think injured (but expected to recover for the World Cup is fine)

That would be - according to the graphic - 2 forwards, 2 midfielders, 2 defenders.

F
Sapsford?
Goodwin?

M
Irvine
Devlin

D
Souttar
Rowles
???

Toure, Rowles. You probably need another RB. I'd go Bennie but you could pick Strain. Can you pick Volpato? Could be fun.

Will goodwin be ready - seems more injury prone as he gets older.

Yeah, Toure instead of Goodwin in my suggestions makes sense

I can pick Volpato if I change his country across in game (just did so for Triantis and Segecic, and for some reason the game still thought Circati was Italian).

Balard could be an alternative to Devlin depending on your preferences too.

Given the way the game has players, could even pick both - I'll share the full squad I'm using after I'm finalised. Lewis Miller is the only ? on me for the moment - based off squad breakdown, I think a Forward/Winger would be best to use. The only one I've added from the suggestions so far is Toure

Actually.. I'll share the 25 player squad I have at the moment - give me a sec, I'll type it up:

** = not in current squad

GOALKEEPERS
Paul Izzo
Mathew Ryan
Patrick Beach

DEFENDERS
Alessandro Circati
Harry Souttar **
Milos Degenek
Kye Rowles **
Cameron Burgess
Jordan Bos

Jason Geria

MIDFIELDERS

Connor Metcalfe
Max Ballard **
Ajdin Hrustic
Jackson Irvine **
Riley McGree
