There are definitely areas that are coming up as concern, so hopefully Joe is identifying them and has a plan to work on it moving forward. We definitely get run down in midfield, which makes me question Gorry. Is she not supposed to be the enforcer holding things so that it allows Fowler and Kyra to play their creative game.

yep, as much as the hype is winning for me alot of unforced errors in between some good passages of play.
Forcing pass's through opponents and the many intercepted with ease due to very wrong choice period.
Now that was against a pretty mobile china pressing alot - the amount of box scrambling our end was luck of the ball we didn't get punished.
You'd expect Japan (beating SK tonight) will be next level and the acid test of the tournament rightly in a Final.

Japan haven’t conceded a single goal yet but have only had easy opponents. If you look at their squad they’re clearly the best team in Asia but I still think we could beat them.

Japan have improved in leaps and bounds since the SheBelieves Cup but if the Matildas don't make the same mistakes as back then in the Women's Asian Cup final, we could get the job done in regulation time or force extra time and still manage to get the win.

I'd say Clare Hunt comes off the bench for the final especially since we need to be fielding a full-strength starting XI and most likely Steph Catley will be one of the starting centre backs alongside Heatley.

I doubt Montemurro will pick her even if she does want to stay on.
After the Asian Cup he will need to get into rebuilding the squad.

agreed and china improved alot seeing them last night.
Jap are a cut above - no matter the Draws you can only play whats in front of you, we've got over the line each game but against Iran was a given.
I expect Jap next level - having the home 12thman/screaming w support hopefully spurs ours on for they really need to step up this one.

The TV ratings were exceptional once again last night, as they have been all tournament. Not only that, it was a 9pm start on the eastern seaboard, and finishing at 11pm, for a work / school night. There is little doubt the Matilda's are a huge draw card around the country.

The crowd was also very good. 35k in Perth for 6pm start is great, particularly given its was the Matilda's third game in Perth in a very short period.

It should be a great event on Saturday night, 80k with huge TV audience and playing for some real silverware. I am backing Sth Korea for the upset in the semi, and the Matilda's feeling confident they can get 'redemption' on the 3 -3 result the other day.

2.2 million for the China game apparently, not counting Paramount or fans at the game.



Overall I would make a rough estimate of around five million viewers in Australia, accounting for different platforms plus multiple people watching (e.g. at pubs, at home, etc). The figure is probably brought down by it being in Perth as it was on relatively late on the East Coast (where most people live).
 
If WA doesn’t adopt daylight savings I can’t see Perth being a suitable host city for such big games. 6:00pm WAST is 9:00pm AEDT so it’s a bit early for some fans coming from school or work to attend but too late for some fans on the East Coast. If it were 7:00pm or 8:00pm AEDT basically anyone could attend on the East Coast and anyone could watch in WA (as there’s less to prepare for when you’re watching at home rather than going to the game). Even Cocos Islands fans could watch at that time lol!

It will be an Asian Cup winners medal rather than a premiership medal, but that aside I agree with you that we can only hope that the final is the last we see of van Egmond. She contributes very little and is often a millstone on the team whenever she plays, and as I said in a post a few days ago she has at least 50 caps more than deserved.
 
Japan up 1–0. Missed the goal cause I was in the shower. Scored by Riko Ueki, a striker for West Ham (Katrina Gorry’s team).
