Australian news and politics.

^ Angus Taylor (who is against renewable energy) had a laugh at Shorten for suggesting fuel reserves.
This bugs me. It's not just an issue for the average punter but a national security risk. If you don't have fuel you can't run an army, navy, airforce. It's been known for years. We should have addressed it. Hopefully its a kick up the arse and gets addressed.

The socially conservative faction of the Liberals and Nationals is ruining the party and in turn alienating voters, either to keep voting for this incompetent Labor government (either through preferences or directly) or go for a worse alternative in One Nation.

I think that Australian politics is starting to mirror the 'old dart'....

Instead of having your 2 major parties it's splintering further.

Greens - Labor - LNP - One Nation

In the UK or at least in England

Greens - Labour - Conservative - Reform UK

This is not a new thing in Western democracies, because it's been happening in continental Europe for quite a while.

Yes.

I’d consider voting liberal because labor are making doing business impossible in Victoria.

However their hard right morons just extinguish that idea.

Liberals showed how much of a bunch of fucking morons they were last election when they tried to do Trumpian style politics here and are still flustered when the electorate laughed at them and then shat on them at the ballot box. One Nation have swooped in like the proverbial one legged pigeons and scammed the dumb cunts who think that Trumpian style politics is a good idea here in Australia. Labor have a whopper amount of seats in the Upper and Lower Houses so anyone who thinks that is going to be overturned or that Pauline gives a flying fuck about them needs to slam their head against a wall several hundred times until something resembling a brain leaks out.

That's right. The two traditional parties are starting to appear to be the same and don't implement anything near what they promise. The right parties are made up mostly of ex conservative members and they've stupidly not ousted their extreme members. If they did that they'd get more of the voting block but it's hard when the public broadcaster has an obsessive smear campaign going while tentatively reporting on any green party incompetence.

I would still do it though I was always a Liberal voter. I have only voted state Liberal (NSW). Didn’t vote Liberal in 2022 or 2025 but preferenced them above Labor. Victoria now has Jess Wilson who is moderate so she’d be a good Premier in my opinion provided she can get the nutcases to shut up.

Some moderates are gonna vote for One Nation because Labor is unpopular but the Liberals are incompetent. One Nation currently present themselves as the most competent party even though they lack any sort of policy on big economic issues other than immigration. And I mean, I agree that immigration should be controlled but we also need to solve issues like housing and COL.

SA votes next Saturday and the polls are saying their popular moderate Labor government will win in a landslide, possibly wiping the Liberals out of Adelaide, because the Liberals have been incompetent and have had too much infighting. They’ve drifted to the right there too but they’ve also had two scandals: a former leader (David Speirs, Black) convicted of dealing cocaine and a defected MP (Nick McBride, MacKillop) charged with assaulting his wife. It’s not a federal election but it’s probably the best test we have for how well One Nation could actually perform.

Last time this was floated the majority of WA said they would go it alone from Perth - - talks shut down pretty quickly

The separatist movement support compass:

If it has a dig at people and states I disagree with= good
If it's a place or government I don't like as a member of a set up I prefer= Oh think of the dumb consequences.

I think I have voted someone else/different party at the last 3 or 4 elections.

One party I could never vote for is One Nation. You have to be the thickest of the thick to get hoodwinked by her

If they were in charge of the country, it would not even be comical.

You'd have to be the thickest of the thick to vote for that Angus half-wit too, to be fair...

Seriously these LNP dimwits have learned nothing!

Labor are pretty shit but look genius level compared to the LNP!!

Not sure if I agree that you’d have to be “the thickest of the thick”. Unfortunately a lot of people without the best education or knowledge of how government and politics work (aka a lot of people over 50, especially in more disadvantaged groups like bogans, those in the regions and even Indigenous Australians) could vote for her. Pauline Hanson is quite charismatic and people feel like there’s no other option.

I wouldn’t vote for them either but I understand how people have become disillusioned with the major parties. But these minor parties, be it the Greens, KAP or One Nation, the Socialists, TOP or anyone else, are not the answer. Pauline Hanson may speak more simply but that doesn’t mean she actually represents the common man. Americans also got conned into voting for Donald Trump, who claimed to be for the common man (even saying he “loves the poorly educated”) and against the elites despite being an elite billionaire and criminal himself.

LOL

Well yeah, she gets people to listen to what she says even if they don’t like her. Compare this to a lot of politicians who people won’t pay attention to.

However, charismatic leaders aren’t always good leaders. Adolf Hitler was disturbingly charismatic and he was arguably the worst person to ever exist.

It was clear what you meant. I don't know enough if it's changed over the years but some have speaking coaches to use the way they communicate to their advantage.

I forget the channel but it was about charisma and the guy said Trump just rolls over Clinton and Harris in a speaking sense regardless of the words that come out.

In turn he said we always need to wake up and truly observe and listen.
