Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

Perhaps he was just bullshitting when he said he wanted to play for Australia.
Exactly. You could see his wry smile in the interview that apparently settled everything- it didn't! Also the player has a right to choose and if someone like Popovic is going to play A Toure and D'Agostino but not give you a minute then you're rightly pissed. Segecic has warranted the most selection amongst nearly every player.

Interesting that so many people want to blame Popovic for a decision Segecic made. If you are angry about it, direct that anger at the person that signed the paperwork.

If he can't get into socceroos how will he get into Croatia's squad lol.

This world cup alone we will take,

Modric - AC Milan
Sucic - Inter Milan
Kovacic - Man City
Baturina - Como
Pasalic - Atalanta
Vlasic - Torino
Sucic - Real Sociadad
Perisic - PSV

Maybe they see potential in him for the future however I'd find it hard for him to crack that midfield anytime soon.
Dumb decision by Segecic.

Exactly. Too much misinformation and this weird belief that a friendly can set you straight which may only be possible if the person has switched nationalities.
A Friendly is meaningless in terms of tying anybody - even if they have changed association.

The timing of this decision just prior to World Cup is so interesting. It'd be less surprising if he made the decision immediately after Popa announced his WC squad if he wasn't chosen. To make the decision now suggests he was pretty aggrieved and perhaps thought he was no chance to be picked, having likely been made aware that he wouldn't feature in the upcoming friendlies. Given he's surely unlikely to be in Croatia's WC squad, I wonder why he has made the decision now 3 months out from WC. It's similar to Triantis where he actually wanted to be a Socceroo and Popovic's actions have led to him turning his back. If it were a different manager, I would say that it is very likely that one or both are already cap-tied Socceroos by now.
Where is the evidence that Triantis wanted to be a Socceroo? He got picked for one squad and didn't get game time, then pulled out of the next squad he was picked for and then switched his allegiance. That really doesn't sound like someone who wanted to play for Australia. I accept you are angry and disappointed at the decisions that some of these dual eligibility players have made, by they are the ones who made the decision. No one has held a gun to their head and said sign here (nor should they).

There wouldn't have been paper work to sign if Popovic had rightly played Segecic. This goes all the way back to Arnold as well.

It was the U20 Asian Cup exactly 3 years ago when Triantis and Segecic were standouts.

It would've be right then to get them both sealed in the world cup qualifying preliminary rounds once we were sure we'd be through but even then they could've come off the bench at the end or even played a bit more as it was a walk on the park Palestine away excepted.

Interesting as well!

I guess if Volpato does end up switching, it'll come out through FIFA before the squad is announced. Not sure I'm betting he will though.

During that window he got the cover feature with video interviews. Of course he needed to keep things positive.

There was the video of Teague receiving his cap and Triantis was sat looking dejected in the background. He needed to be more professional but what happened was Popovic kept making unwarranted picks.

This is the same issue that crept in under Ange. An ineffective Kruse kept getting picked among others and it sends frustrations through the camp.

What message do you think the Triantis and Segecic cases have now sent to Robertson? He was on the cusp of leaving himself.

We were supposed to have Triantis, Segecic and Robertson playing together but now we'll have to make do with others.

Remember the Ange grill sessions after qualifiers? I think a lot of those press members have moved on and wherever they were from doesn't have the big football press department anymore.

I wish we'd have the same for Popovic. Ask him and don't give him an inch to get out of it. Popovic however has already been stern in press conferences by just saying 'that's my answer' or 'there's not much else to say' which is an easy deflection.

That simply isn't true. He's got a lot x factor than some of the others who always get in.

I see our options are thinning which gives Popovic fewer headaches. Still got massive depth.
Disagree. Other than being able to strike a ball from distance, he offers fuck all

Talk about telegraphing your punches! Picks Triantis and Sega but doesn't play them, basically alerting other nations that this is their last chance to poach and throw the kitchen sink at the players. Embarrassing.

How will Popa be remembered in a decade? As a winning manager who had loyal players, or by the number of caps made by the players lost? If he doesn't win, what do we have?
