Women's Asian Cup match discussion thread

The Matildas will miss Catley's steadiness at the back .Courtney Nevin did not have a happy match when she came on.
Raso pops up with goals and is always positive so again a loss to the team.North Korea will test our girls and Montemurro's game management. However if the Matildas play good combination football they should win.

Nevs is a good player, she’ll come back from that. Wasn’t her fault Macca couldn’t catch the ball and completely missed the pen. In saying that though the defence did make mistakes.

I’m not too sure why Steph got moved back to left back. For context she used to always play at left back but then Arsenal moved her to left centre back and she’s played there ever since for club and country. This has allowed us to have Charli or Nevs at left back and then pair Steph at centre back with Hunty or Wini with Ellie on the right of course. All of the sudden for this tournament we’ve reverted to Steph at LB, Wini at LCB, Clare at RCB and Ellie at RB.

What? Didn't these two pick up their injuries during this tournament?
Both Hayley Raso and Steph Catley sustained concussions after copping falcons during the Iran and South Korea games respectively, but they were still in contention to be selected because there is no mandatory stand-down period under AFC rules.

We picked Emily van Egmond who’s in quite poor form for Leicester and Michelle Heyman who isn’t scoring anymore.
Emily van Egmond set to equal Clare Polkinghorne's all-time caps record for the Matildas if she gets game time in the quarterfinal against North Korea today, making her 169th appearance for the Tillies.

The Matildas' starting XI for our Women's Asian Cup quarterfinal against North Korea has been named. Mackenzie Arnold starts between the sticks again, with Kaitlyn Torpey coming in at left back in the absence of Steph Catley. Emily van Egmond equals Clare Polkinghorne's all-time caps record for the Matildas, making her 169th appearance starting in midfield, with Sam Kerr leading the line as captain.

Matildas in their home green and gold 'lime Splice' strip for our quarterfinal against North Korea, with the opposition in their all red kits. Mackenzie Arnold in the blue keeper strip for the Tillies, the first time we're not using the purple colourway this campaign.
