Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Gully is due for a win eventually..

Apart from getting smashed by Avondale all the other games they played were relatively close, late 2-1 loss to Heidelberg and last week drew against Hume. I would expect them eventually to be stronger than the likes of Altona, Bentleigh and st albans.

I hope we didnt pick our team based on current ladder positions.

Or based on pre-season friendly scores eh?

Have any players posted on their socials that they are in Honiara? I'm hoping Bonada and Pasquali are not there.

Then the sacrifice of these NPL games to take a top 2 spot in OFC is official and ghis must ultimately mean that we will go full squad vs preston oakleigh having cemented the OFC..... id have preferred the reverse but who am I to question those that know best!

These 2 rounds were guaranteed points imo and would open the gap up with the below for those harder rounds ahead... now we may see a revival to Gullys season and we arw risking dropping points across 4 NPL games for no real reason...

well if its official why dont the πουτανες bother telling US about it? At least it will save me a trip out to that windswept wasteland. If they dont respect the 50 sad bastards that follow them here every week they can go and respect the 2 Hellas fans in Guadalcanal scanning the beach for WW2 souvenirs. Lets see how many memberships that will sell next year.

Im just hoping our GD doesnt get massacred in the next 2 games. Its frustrating cos our best team thumps Gully but these are going to be dropped points that others wont drop.

The other concern is we lose tonight and then dont do the job on Sunday (the Hume/auckland swing which we failed)

Honiara simply must be the last time our first team plays ofc until the playoffs in Auckland.

A 2nd goal just before HT would have been huge for us. Going to be very tough against the wind in the 2nd half.

That was a huge win in the scheme of things. To start the match with just 4 first team senior players, 7 U23 players and a bench comprised of just kids is quite the feat !

I must say some of these young players have real talent. They’re still raw and essentially youth players, but tonight’s match will give them invaluable experience and further their development.

Eliopoulos had another massive match. All senior players stood up today and had great performances. Special call out to Saristavros. Scores on debut and was the difference in the end. Dovison ran all night. All the young kids put in a big effort to be fair.

Sinisa left during the last 10 minutes so he could head to Melbourne Airport to start his travel to the Solomon Islands. Now that is dedication! Which means they’ll be back before next week’s fixture against Dandenong Thunder.

Tonight’s starting XI was actually made up of full of Greek players! Added bonus !

With tonight’s great win over Gully and other results, we remain top of the league for another week.

On a side note gully were even worse than magic going to be a long season for them. Huge win for the youngsters. George up front especially was brilliant, our pressing all game was brilliant youngsters agelatos in midfield aswell never gave up. Credit javi first half also winding back the clock with 3 top saves even gullys coach commented on the save to us. Lampard said he had a little knee niggle but should be right for dandy next week

The way we snuffed them out in the 2nd half was incredible, i was expecting a huge amount of pressure with the wind behind them but they did virtually nothing and we really should have finished them off with 10 to go

. On paper they dont seem bad, will be interesting to see how they go moving forward as this coach is surely getting sacked.

The youngsters were brilliant but we just had enough experience sprinkled through to see it out. Cant leave out Javi who made a ridiculous save in the 1st half.

I maintain the inclusions of Pasquali and Bonada were huge, to have an experienced head in the midfield and one in attack to go with the 2 experienced centre backs gave us enough of a spine to be organised and competitive.

More of the same next week with Lampard included, depending how the hub rotation goes between the 2 games we may be stronger next week.
