.....And my visa fees are up again

Total from beginning to citizenship will now be 53k (106k australian). Getting worried i never catch up
What kind of visas have these been? Study, work, academic? That's a mental amount of money but you can't tell me every person who's migrated to the UK has had to spend that much.

global talent visa

skilled worker and global talent as well as most visas are 1k per person per year in immigration health surcharge, 3k per person for indefinite leave to remain and then quite a bit for the visas themselves as well as the citizenship. We have a family of 5

Ah right so that's the total for the whole family? Still exorbitant and I don't buy the politicians saying that these visa types earn well so they can pay it. It's still a burden that stifles one's comfort when you should be focused on thriving with those talents.

Indeed and my wife would need to change visa (expensive) to work. It basically means we are breadline with no margin for error and its possible we can never buy a house

Would you be better off back in Oz?

My son was telling me it's about $3000 AUD to apply for a working holiday visa.

Every backpacker back in the day used to go to England to work. I wonder how many are going now.

My job is tricky to get (physics professor researching cosmology), i could see if there are ads in australia....

That'll teach you for having the gall to study science.

Perhaps you can start writing about how climate change is a problem. I hear it's a gravy train that all the scientists are on as evidenced by the fact they all drive Lamborghinis and Ferraris and live in mansions.

So are the scientists following the science or the money? I guess it was in that order.

Australians in the UK are generally more mature professionals rather than hospitality workers nowadays.

I saw an article years back asking where all the Aussies had gone and basically it's that they've all grown up and fewer have followed in their footsteps as the opportunities aren't as accessible.

While I was in the UK in 2007 the sudden influx of new EU state workers soaked up opportunities and our wages went down overnight. Nowadays it's just middle aged migrant men in all the service jobs. Once and Indian gets into management, they hire their own.

I recently visited Portsmouth where I had lived and the working holiday community from Australia, NZ and South Africa simply doesn't exist anymore. Shepard's Bush is more Mogadishu than Melbourne now.

It sucks the British government are bleeding you like that. I bet they lose a lot of skilled professionals with that visa policy.

Governments need to make money somehow if they’re not going to make their donors pay tax.

Given the average salary of scientists they're not in it for the money.

Which proved the morons that say that haven't a clue.

It's such a shame. It was basically a rite of passage for young people to go to ol' Blighty to work in a pub or something and then travel Europe.

Yeah it was also completely unexpected. People apply for these jobs all around the world and dont keep track of visa fees in different countries. U then just go to the first country where a uni says yes
