Women's Asian Cup general discussion thread

She's a fantastic defender that bombs down the wing like a winger anyway. It's just 9 times out of 10 she lacks a quality cross or threaded pass into the box or even a shot although she did score a screamer the other day so fingers crossed someone's pulled her aside to help her.
The other day? The goal you’re talking about (the one against Barça, which I agree was an excellent goal) was in November.

Agree that she's a fantastic defender though. She’s the best right back in the world, she just gets overlooked by awards like the Ballon d’Or (which she hasn’t ever been nominated for) because Chelsea haven’t won the Champions League (but have won harder domestic competitions unlike Barça and Lyon, and nowadays Bayern too) and the Tillies haven’t won the World Cup.

Mary is the big question as she’s only just started getting fit again.
Mary Fowler will likely be on managed minutes for the vast majority of the Women's Asian Cup and won't be starting until either our last group game against South Korea or the knockout stage should we make it that far.

Probably inevitable, it's not the World Cup and all the matches are only hosted in three cities. It's a big ask on demand vs supply. Adelaide and Melbourne lost the plot not entering, even Tassie would've been great for a tournament like this.

I think a lot are for the neutral games too. All the Matildas games will be sold out. Even Accor is set to be sold out and it has a capacity of 83,000.

I'm a bit disappointed they played the Iranian games in Qld of all places, huge Iranian community here in Sydney.
Yeah true but there’s huge communities of all those groups to be fair. Lots of Filos and Koreans. If anything a Japan game on the Gold Coast would make no sense as the Goldie is the centre of the Japanese community (a lot of Chinese up there too but Sydney is 10.6% Chinese too).

I also think the Socceroos shoulda played Japan on the Gold Coast rather than Bahrain as the Arab Australian community is very much in Sydney.

Should be a comfortable win for the Matildas, like at least 3–0. This woulda been a good match to cap Annalise Rasmussen in to permanently cap-tie her to the Tillies.

We should play Jada Whyman to finally cap her. She needs a cap, her situation’s gotten way too out of hand.

I think it's more likely that Jada Whyman gets her long-awaited Matildas debut for our second group game against Iran as opposed to opening day against the Philippines because we'll ideally want to get our campaign off and running with a win and the Philippines are still a dangerous side so I won't be surprised if Chloe Lincoln starts between the sticks instead.
