Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

The shit thing is we were better playing tonight and getting rained off on Friday.

You are spot on. If the heavens had opened on Friday night as opposed to last night, it would actually worked in our favour.

In all likelihood, the match against Tahiti United will be added to the Honiara hub, which means we have to take that hub seriously. It was only 2 matches, and we could have got away with a weakened squad and focus on the NPL. That now wont be the case.

You seemed to have changed your tune, RE: This tourney. You were all excited about it last year.
Pretty much... its just seems so haphazard and unprofessional... If the Saudis have dumped 30 mill into it as reported I'm not sure were all the money is being spent? They could have forked out a couple of hundred bucks yesterday and gone to Kennards to hire some giant wetvacs to dry the ground out for instance.

Mate they spent thousands on hiring lights and tv camera gantries to show the match - they had a VAR systems in place, they een had a VIP section with a white picket fence at Olympic village the other day... two folding tables and 4 people sitting behind the goals in a space that could fit 2-3 thousand...

Im sure it will get better and this is their first crack at hosting something like that.. I appreciate this is a much learning curve for this small federation as it is for the clubs involved, mine included... I just don't want to throw the league season away chasing something that doesn't seem to have much value to anyone...

Agree, the league ALWAYS comes first.

Pity an ex THFC manager, never realized this.

We now have 2 big matches within 24 hours of each other. We may need to spread our starting XI across both matches. We saw last week what happened after resting 7 players of our best Starting XI.

I cant see the coach making too many substitutions in both matches given the squad will be spread too thinly over both matches.
