Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

South Melbourne women with a 5-1 win over Bentleigh Greens on NPLW Victoria opening day after they trailed 1-0 at the half, with all five goals coming in the second half. The result sees South Melbourne top of the table on three points, level with Essendon Royals but with better for and against, however other teams are yet to get their campaigns underway for season 2026.

That was an important and vital away win to kick off the season on a positive note.

Must say the team kept Avondale without a shot on target all match. That’s pretty impressive. Yes there were a few moments in the match where they could have scored, but that’s how football is. The opposition will get opportunities to attack.

Having players like Cocks and Lackay come on for the last 20 minutes of the match is a great option for Sinisa to either kill off matches or look for that winning goal. Cocks had great pace and loves to run at defenders. The second goal was all his hard work down the right flank.

Backline was good. Kept it tight at the back and repelled all Avondale attacks.

Pasquali is just a real luxury to have in this league. He really is a classy player. Hopefully we can see another season of him at South.

Three points in the bag. Good start and now we look ahead to Hume City on Thursday and Auckland the following Saturday.

Let’s see how much of a rotation happens between both matches.

Now starts the crazy 2 weeks of 6 matches. Football department will need to get the rotations spot on.

If we can get 4 straight wins in the Melbourne OFC Pro League hub, and 2 more wins in the NPL Victoria competition, we will be a very strong position.

So we have 2 big matches on Thursday and Saturday - both are must wins.

The problem that I see that only having a 23 man squad is limiting in our ability to have some decent depth. We can only add extra U20 youth players to top up match squads.

What's a possible starting XI on Thursday against Hume City and on Saturday night against Auckland?

After watching Hume last weekend I think we can rest a few tired legs and still walk away with 3 comfortable points...
