2026 World Cup Squad

I think we might be underestimating Awer Mabil a bit given his recent goalscoring form for CD Castellon, and also he brings much-needed World Cup experience to the squad having been with the Socceroos in Qatar last cycle.
Similar to hrustic roo fans impression of him is probably a bit coloured by the fact he had some bad performances when his club career was in chaos

I agree yet the issue with situations like this is they get a chance and then go lazy. Mabil and Hrustic were peak before the last world cup and both were massive disappointments. Hrustic had an injury. As much as it sucks I think we can learn from the Juric and Hrustic sagas that we must not take anyone under an injury cloud.

We have better players available now compared to when he was last in the squad. And he is too lazy too often. I clearly recall when he came in for the last 5-10 minutes against Tunisia in Qatar, and his performance was a disgrace in that he didn’t seem to be interested in doing the hard work needed off the ball to keep our lead. Not interested in seeing him in green and gold again.

Couldn't believe his lack of sprinting and press that day. I was shouting 'you're fresh in a world cup, work!'

Has he been out of sight for long enough for the 'potential' to come back in fans' minds? Maybe it needs longer based on some of the posts here. I'd say more likely if they get promoted and he has a run of goals towards the end of the season.

Setting aside the fan vibe. He is 30, on paper playing at his best level, playing consistently for a team playing well, experienced with 30 odd caps, a position no one has grabbed. Should be in the mix with all the others, but maybe has come too late for Popa to consider unless he bangs down the door with goals.

I wouldn't mind seeing him against Cameroon. If he plays well, then we take him to the WC. Simple
No. He had his chance. Plays like a Luxury player but he isn't at that level. Completely unbalance the side. You can't have a player that won't work in a hard working team - it just upsets the whole dynamic.

On the right side of our set-up I'd have Irankunda, Sapsford, Vellupillay, Boyle, Metcalfe and Segecic ahead. A long way back imo. And never featured under Popovic. His goal/assist record isn't bad but not screaming must select either. He isn't even a regular starter. He's a sometimes starter. I think his form and chances are overblown.

Not much to disagree with. McGree is the stand out. Metcalfe and Irankunda above the rest. He is is there in that next tier but as you say hasn't really been involved

If Silvera is the backup to Miller at RWB even more so .
