A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 15

Yet what brought these big crowds on? Derby I get. Just a good day out for Newcastle and Perth simply play better now?
For Newcastle there’s a lot of good vibes here around the team. Young side with lots of locals playing great, entertaining football and on a winning streak. New ownership that’s mending a lot of old wounds in the community. A trophy already in the cabinet.

Add to that a nice day and a kids go free promo and the crowd shows up.

Quintal is an old Bounty mutineer surname- lots of them on Norfolk Island.
Is this guy Portuguese descent?
Yes, apparently. Transfermarkt lists him as dual Australia/Portugal nationality.

He's tied to Australia though - even on the rare chance that Portugal might find him interesting.

Redmayne has been in tremendous form for Mariners.Victory let down by poor finishing and resolute defending.
Auglah had been dissed by a lot of Mariners fans but that goal was priceless.

What odds of Newcastle getting one or two more trophies this season to add to the A-league Cup.

Would love to see them play this way in the ACLE or ACL2.

Remember the Knights in the 90s? Regardless of the sport it's great to see the community getting out there. Make a day of it.

During covid I realised it wasn't about the football but more about meeting mates but the football was something of the glue.

I do indeed. I wasn’t even a Knights fan (still aren’t) but even I knew every single player and they absolutely were the heart and soul of the city at that time. The connection to the community was unparalleled.

Even when collecting spoons the Knights will still get 20k to a game. Proves it’s not about results but about being something bigger the people can get behind even when the chips are down.

So the guy I wanted to sign ends up scoring against us. Fanf$^%ingtastic. Great goal by Auglah.
I reckon Moon is a decent manager. I'd be interested to see what he could do with a strong squad rather than the fairly weak hands he's been dealt so far in his AL career.

Sweeping generalisation - most clubs don't lose supporters since most people don't switch clubs. They just stop going to games for whatever reasons.

There are still 20k+ 'fans' for most clubs in the aleague (as opposed to members or ever been members) and if the football is good, something they didn't like changes, or some other factor that stopped them going to games changes, they may simply choose to come to games.

End of school holidays may be enough in itself for crowds to be boosted. Back to school and work = need to relax or be distracted.

I think the spread of decent football across the league and the chance for most teams to be in the top 6 within a couple of good games is enough to produce crowd growth over the season.

Sydney derby has its own following of course.

No NRL, No AFL, No Big Bash Cricket, No-one to compete with.
AFL gets back underway next week and by the end of the month NRL will also be underway so we would expect the crowd numbers to eventually dwindle as football has other codes to compete with again in the latter part of the season.
