A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 15

33,265 @ Sydney tonight.
And then the whole 'why don't they turn up every week?' discussion begins. I get people pick and choose and certain games have their drawcard. FWIW German clubs have this too with the plastic or small clubs getting much fewer home fans. German football is still incredibly well visited but empty seats are on the up.

It'd need a deeper digging about whether there are more smaller grounds in the league compared to two seasons ago. Maybe.

The why don’t they turn up every week, has been a point of debate since 1977.

TBF , to get that many when both teams are shite, is a grand effort.

Apparently SFC don't have to have Lolley in order to win. Game was over by the time he came on. Obviously he can and has made a big difference for them in his time here.

We have lost the ability to play competitive football - but on top of that I think Bouzanis's two stuff ups cost us the game today outright. I would be interested in the results if someone checked either his bank account or his betting slips for today.

We have a chance to hold teams down to a single goal with pressure and close marking when needed. Add in a Herrington at the back to prevent one clear goal every game and stifle others and you see the difference between a winning team and us now.

Gift our opponents two goals and add the one they get through their own endeavours and we are stuffed.

For some reason, when we go a goal down I have a feeling that we lack the ability to get out of it. I guess I have no faith in our attacking system once we do go behind.

D'Agostino has not been given much of a chance to do anything in the two matches he has taken part in. I don't know how we are meant to be playing him but he is invisible. And it is not his fault. We did it with Long earlier in the season when we had him isolated and just put balls in his general direction in hope. We are doing the same now, but since we lack the accuracy to put a ball where it needs to be he cannot produce anything.

Lauton substituted on for the injured O'Shea was a bit baffling. A pretty random experiment by Valkanis I think given he then substituted Lauton later for MacNicol - who it has to be said did not lift the game in any way himself.

We are just a scrappy football side now and have been for a month. Up to Valkanis to turn it around since I still believe we have the players we need to perform competitively. Defensively we are not contenders like we were at the start of the season and I doubt we will get that rock solid resilience we had with Herrington. So be it. Just get us playing decent attacking football with some midfield presence all game and we can feed our forwards. Win games 3-2 instead of losing.

At this stage we are not top 6 potential (funny that - we are not top 6 anymore) and if we can't sort ourselves out we will be playing off for Australia Cup positions again. The league is tight, but we should be playing better than we are. We are better than this.

Really good play by the Jets and deserved winners. Congratulations on 5 in a row and top spot for now.

So many players who have both the ability and the composure to finish.

Much of that has to be Milligan and the coaching team to refine the skills and sharpen the mindset to convert the potential that many players have across the league but lack the consistency and reliability.
Yeah, credit to Jets and Milligan. I have to admit they looked a different class today. As for us, a couple of quick notes. Herrington is being missed, as expected and feared. I agree Daggers looks somewhat isolated, little impact on the game. I had hoped first half last week was a sign of things to come (apart from the finishing), now fingers crossed we can pick up from where we left off there in our next match.
