The Medical Room - Injury Updates

Reading the Leonard injury was Thursday and he's already had surgery. Happened in a tackle. Rotten luck and it's possible at any moment and he'd played and trained plenty already so this isn't some made of glass moment.

What's it with Australian players getting injured over in Europe? It's no wonder euro clubs are starting to turn their backs on signing Australian players given they cant handle the workload over there.

FBK's comments in the suited and booted podcast about Australian players were interesting as well.

Probably the reverse is true. He has hardly played. I think the point is more that you need to go to a club where you get meaningful game time.

I’m a big follower of Athletic Truth Group (ATG) and have seen so many success stories of people overcoming serious injuries (particularly knees) by training their bodies to work through progressive levels of stress and range of motion. Considering Circati’s insane recovery from his ACL, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was doing similar things in his rehab. I am working my way through a big knee injury myself and am seeing the benefits so much faster than regular physio exercises. To me, this raises the question of whether there’s more we can do (conditioning/sports science wise) to make our players’ bodies more durable for their transition overseas to softer/harder pitches. ATG principles also apply to prevention and building tolerance to high levels of strain on muscles/joints/soft tissue.
There are some interesting ATG coaches online who specialise in things like this and work with football players (Bulletproof Baller, Zak Woodward etc.). I don’t know. Just trying to make sense of it all and find a solution to an extremely frustrating problem as an AA supporter haha. Also, longer seasons would help.

Jordan Bos (Feyenoord)
Yes, he was injured.
During the match against FC Utrecht last night (Sunday, Feb 8), Jordan Bos had to be substituted in the 79th minute.
The Incident: He went down after a challenge and required medical treatment on the pitch.
The Substitution: He was replaced by Bart Nieuwkoop in the 82nd minute.
Current Status: While we are waiting for the official club scan results, early reports suggest it may be a recurrence of the hamstring/calf issues that have hampered him recently. This is a major concern for the Socceroos ahead of the March international window.
