The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

The Home Ground with David Basheer is often interesting and sometimes features interviews with people from Championship clubs. The latest video is with Paul McNamee (of Tennis fame) and he touches on his association with South Melbourne's Southern Cross bid, and his passion for the Championship was really heartening. He offers some good perspective. Discussion of football starts around the 7 minute mark after talking about his axing from Melbourne (Demons) Football Club:

The interview with David Cvetkovski is also interesting to learn how what Preston are trying to do:

Paul McNamee ... the streets will never forget.

Anyone know if they'll have another special transfer window before the next Championship? Or was that a once off because of the late change of format?

they need to use some audio tech like magic audio because nick's connection is hard to hear. I'm tempted to download the vid and fix the audio then upload it somewhere....

if someone has a cloud folder I can do that for people

I think Bill said that we won't have a home and away format for now because it would put clubs in financial difficulty. Also that other clubs didn't want clubs buying their way into the Championship. They were confusing statements and I'll have to listen again, because it sounded like the clubs that can't afford it didn't want the clubs in it that could afford it haha

that would make sense if petty rivalaries got in the way

I believe 50% of state congress is selected by clubs. So if clubs don't want their rivals getting up into an nst they could be a hindrance and we know that some member feds were hostile (some for more pro a league reasons like tas)

If you thought Papps as confusing in English you should hear speak Greek... hahaha

He said around the 19min mark the NPL season starts on 19th Feb. Come on mate you should atleast get something that basic right..
Cmon man the guy wants to put on a song and dance to play to an audience sure, but stating that Hellas "rose through the state leagues" when we have spent every single season of our existence in either the top tier of Victoria or Australia apart from our very first promotion form the old state North.. when ELSE have we been promoted?

In NPL NSW, it looks like it could be either 4th or 5th place that ends up getting the "winners" spot to the Championship as only Rockdale and NWS are currently within reach. That seems a bit ridiculous. I'd rather that spot be given to ANY runner up from any other federation, instead of 4th/5th placed! 🤮

Next point, what's happening with the next round of expansion?? What's the progress of the next EOI/RFP, or have FA shut up shop and we're stuck with these eight clubs for five years? All the clubs that were ready to enter but were cast aside at the 11th hour, do they twiddle their thumbs until 2030?

Gotta keep the ball moving and pressure on. It's NINE months after the last RFP closed. We need an update on what they're doing next.

Fully agree here regarding NPL NSW. Its absolutely rediculous and almost a mockery. In its second season the ROI shouldve already been in place? Teams vetted and the foundation build upon with the general push to cement the comp fully.. you dont do that with revolving doors....

From an FA perspective ... Its again feels half arsed approach will.continue as its all quiet on the western front which i can understand from the member feds with NPL is in full flight but FA seems to have done zero yet again to grow the comp and make for a stronger second run after the initial success... promotion with the end of the Aleague shouldve been in place to sell the idea of year round football as a minimum... not even a snippet of info about how the comp is to grow.
FA too suspiciously quiet for my liking.. ..
