Netherlands the best skill wise. Japan most significant or important. China was a vital one when game was in balance. Syria was meaningless as Syria won by hitting the post.

If the grass wasn’t so long the Syrian goal would have gone in

I was at the Netherlands game and it was a phenomenal finish.

But I can't go past the Japan goal. It saved us and that win was so sweet.

I'd feel different if we beat Netherlands but the result and the moment counts.

Crazy to think that if Cahill never played for us our first world cup win happens in Qatar thanks to arnie ball

We probably also miss the 2014 and 2018 world cups, perhaps even 2010

2014 qualifying was a mess. The late Cahill and Thompson goals Iraq away saved us big time.

VAR probably pulls back the UAE winner for the push on the defender in 2016. Still wish we'd thrown him on more in 2018.

VAR probably takes away Kewell's goal vs Croatia too. And they'd probably uphold Grosso's penalty as well.

also gives cahill a red card v japan, uruguay a pen v us in the away leg, send poppa off in the home leg, send grella off v brazil, chalk off the goal we conceded v japan and give us 5 pens v croatia

complete chaos :D

That angle could be deceiving for Kewell's goal. Keeps happening today that it seems offside then the straight line and side angle shows how deep the defender was.

VAR turns Grosso's dive around 9 times out of 10. Falls forward.

I wish that was true, but I later watched the replay and neills elbow goes into grosso's leg, so a pen

That's the one I was looking for. The 5 pens against Croatia. Graham Poll....

I've watched that Cahill challenge against Japan and I did super slow mo. The Japan player begins a simulation fall knowing the ball was dead. He puts his entire weight on his left? leg and does a sort of twist to fall to the floor. The ref was blind and terrible that day. Interestingly no Japan player claimed a penalty there. Perhaps it appeared cleaner nearer by.

Kewell's red against Ghana stands. I saw my fourth ever post on IS was about how our world cup games can't go without controversy. They kept coming.

I see the elbow and the question is whether he's trying to protect himself or impede. It's the stop, forward fall and trail that makes it dive from Grosso.

We see it even worse now with players running into the man, going to ground and being given a penalty. Thankfully refs are onto it now.

will have to rewatch the cahill red and pen then! Thought it was a howler even on replay!

it seems unless you flykick arzani in the face he is accused of simulation, so it does depend on the ref

Did that happen today?
it might have been outside the box to be fair but clear pen, almost a clone of milanovic's pen. He seems to get accused of simulation by refs and fans a lot
