Absolutely insane goal from Milly Cassar. Player of the Match has to be Riley Tanner though, she was excellent.

The women's league seems to be so much better at the long bombs than the men's. I know the keepers are shorter and can be lobbed easier, but the shots always seem on target and top bins. Whereas the men tend to just blast it high and wide, less careful with their technique.

Someone on Reddit mentioned Heather Hinz's height when I posted one of her saves against Adelaide United and said she was short. She's 170cm which is taller than average for a woman, but she's shorter than four of the five Matildas keepers.

I think that some players at Sydney FC are still of Matildas calibre with the likes of Sarah Hunter, Mackenzie Hawkesby and Tori Tumeth having represented either the senior team or age grade sides, but trying to replace the vast majority of senior players with youth means that the playing list is becoming increasingly inexperienced which may have contributed to their winless run.
Hot take but Mackenzie Hawkesby hasn't been too convincing this season.

Macca went to Brighton for a bit in her prime but couldn't get a game and eventually came back. Very different story for Charlize Rule who was a defender for Sydney FC and now starts at Brighton and hopefully is in the mix for the Asian Cup squad.

Trying to replace Matildas quality players with ALW scraps for 2 seasons will do that to a club.
Yea the player losses have certainly hurt us, but our current squad is pretty good and should be getting results so I think it's time for a manager change.

I think in general the A-League is now mostly a development league similar to the WE League in Japan. While some will criticise that the youngsters we have and are bringing through are of a high quality. Japan exports some class players, especially from Tokyo Verdy who get watched by WSL scouts all the time.

If the ALW is considered a development league then we should be attracting WSL scouts similar to that of Tokyo Verdy otherwise who are we developing players for?
I would suggest that those scouts would dismiss the league due to its semi professional status.

ALW is a development league in the same way the ALM is. APL is ensuring managed decline for both.

Yeah, absolutely we should, especially since our league is actually better than Japan's in the women's game (though the Japan national team is better because Japanese players get better pathways and none of the good ones stay in Japan). Not just WSL scouts though, should be all European scouts.
