I don't think so. Ikon was called before a senior appearance. These aren't random half chance players were talking about here. If he doesn't develop into what we hope then that's how it goes. It's got to be party of a wider strategy to secure the best worthy talent. Germany slip up a lot with Turkish players while Turkey have contact with them from a very young age.
 
For being the biggest football magazine in the country, Kicker are full of shit suggesting Metcalfe could have started when he's not even in the squad. The stuff they get wrong on a regular basis....

i get what you saying, but I'd argue at least some of it is a chicken and egg problem

its hard to play attractive football at international level without better players and its hard to get better players until our team has more prestige (which in turn requires better players)
