CCM under APL control

Yeah but why would CCM screw him like this... if the sale is going through then why did Chalsworth even need to make a statement? It all smells... Also If I was a WU fan Id be pissed the APL didnt keep my club afloat. .
I'm sure the APL didn't have $15M lying around. what has Charlesworth said - I haven't seen anything attributed to him

There are always interested parties. Problem is that A-League clubs seem to over-value what they have. I'm sure a buyer could be found tomorrow if they accepted a reasonable price.
Not sure that's the case. The Running losses are in the millions per year.

I've been asking the same question for 20+ years to the teams and clubs who occupy last position with no relegation.

Answer is - they dont need too lol.
Unless you got some mad nut case fans that will scare players day to day, geninuely no point, you get the salary at the end of day but from the leagues I watch overseas even relegation doesn't scare players/staff, biggest club atm being West Ham and their players atm.

Salaries, living conditions, globalisation of agents and social media changed the game from them.

Got a great sized stadium for the league and have shown that they can generate cut-through into the local community as they have done in the past.

Issue has clearly been ownership and to be honest, the fickle nature of their fans. Do they only turn up when they are winning??

Every time we are doing well we decide to do something stupid.
How does today’s announcement qualify as doing something stupid?

I would argue it’s another result of a terrible model that was initiated when the A League closed system was introduced all those years ago.

We need to abolish the closed system.

Unlike the change from the NSL to the A League, this will not mean a change of clubs.

So, unlike then, there will not be a whole demographic alienated.

That is incorrect. It is the A League model ... it's about time you all realise that the Closed model is NO GOOD!!!!

Sad, but true.

Stolen from another poster elsewhere - but it is the truth.

Charlesworth was constantly thwarted by Council. For years his development of the Centre of Excellence was held up while they did studies on traffic flows and then they put their own extended regional sports fields at the end of the rode before he was given approval. His multiple proposals for onside hotel/motels for travelling teams or for youth carnivals were never quite approved - he tried to buy or lease the stadium and improve it his plan near copied by the council employees - who then leased it elsewhere.

This part is mine

CCM fans are probably the least fickle in the league. They just have a lower population to build from. What they need is consistency in performance which comes from having the money to at least fund the team properly in a salary capped league. If you can do that and run your academy without having fire sales every year then crowds will grow. Given the size of the region the crowds are ok but each time they have had a consistent runs of final they will grow by 30-35% over 3 years and then a run of spoons the reverse. They need to be able to compete consistently - maybe not make finals every year - but at least compete for them. Consistent performance year on year will build the crowds - not a boom-bust cycle. And that is built of consistent revenue.

And no more? HBF and Go Media too big as well.

My actual point was, what are the alternatives?

No more in my view. And no there are no alternatives - but that doesn't mean that there isn't a problem. A problem doesn't have to have a solution to be a problem.

Interestingly, from a trophy case point of view, they are the third most successful club in the A-league.

SFC - 5 Championships - 4 Premiers - (inc 3 doubles) + 2 Aus Cups
MV - 4 Championships - 3 Premiers - (inc 3 doubles) + 2 Aus Cups
CCM - 3 Championships - 3 Premiers - (inc 1 double) + 1 AFC Cup

However, like you said, consistency is not their strong point. With them It's either great or rubbish and not much in-between.
Comparatively, when you look at Adelaide United, they have only won a couple of trophies, but they are fairly consistently a competitive club. They are not a top 3 club, but they are regularly in that upper middle section. That results in solid crowds over the years.

Where would you be if the council actually worked with the club?

The quesrion I was answering was what is wrong with the sport in Australia.

Pretty obvious - it is run by morons. When the going gets tough it is always someone else’s fault.
