A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 10

What was Valkanis doing in the dugout after just one game? A joke of a suspension!
Especially if he was in the dressing room after being sent off - although I have to admit I have no idea about the laws governing a coaches send off.

I missed all the fuss/altercation and have only read what is written on this forum - but I did see 30 seconds of it on free-to-air tv news with Matt Simon in the tunnel. That on its own was something - with aleagues results being at least mentioned in sports coverage frequently now.

I thought it would be a no go for 'support staff' and coaches to be in the tunnel with the players. Normally there is a bit of segregation between the coaches and the playing group if only by principle or practice. Too easy to disrupt an opponent if you could have heckling or abuse (in general - not commenting on this situation) while they are trapped in the tunnel before a game or after halftime.

Memeti apparently called Vidic a Gypsy
Someone called Berisha a gypsy in his early Australian/Roar days. Oh, that's right it was Bouzanis.

He got 5 weeks as the minimum mandatory suspension for using discriminatory language.

Edit: oops - just read the article and they tell us that

Why is it, that it seems to be only the non-Anglos accused of racism.

IMO, a load on nonsense, what happens on the field, stays on the field.

Call him a bald headed tosser. Call him an egg head. You can get away with that if the lack of hair is his choice. Call him Bob all game ("yeah - really good shot there Bob", "you totally fucked that up there Bob"). Anything can annoy a player within acceptable bounds. No need to go racial at all in professional sports.

I don't intend for this thread to go sideways on this but I think it matters enough to say it...

If people can avoid using the N or indigenous Aussie A slurs they can avoid all racial slurs. They know where the lines are and they know the "happens on the field" defence won't hold water for those.

No place anywhere for slurs and insults that cross our accepted societal lines - especially those that are done under cover of "what happens on the field stays on the field". That is as bad as parliamentary privilege for the shit that gets thrown under its protection.

My gut feel is that Anglo society is still steeped in a solid layer of racism, but reasonable, decent individuals know not to cross the line both out of a level of understanding and as a privileged whitey who knows how society reacts.

Those who live a life subject to racism or with strong racial backgrounds seem more inclined to use reverse racial commentary as an entitlement; but like bus drivers in the city used to having right of way they forget that the other bus driver also has that same right when they cross paths.

My tuppence worth.

Bumping this thread as a reminder of the Rd 10 SFC vs ACK catchup game tomorrow.
Originally this was a Saturday game and would have been broadcast on FTA, however it looks like it's only on Paramount+ this time.

I wish ten would show a bit of ambition putting it on bold for a Tuesday night game

I agree to an

Clearly defence is the priority but don’t think we are that bad to watch. We’ve certainly become better to watch as the season has come along. I’m just happy we’re winning again.

I will say some of the antics from the coaching staff on the benches as well as some of the players isn’t always pleasant to watch, but I guess it comes with the territory. Hopefully they can refine it and simmer down as the season progresses 😂
I'm not a Roar fan, but I disagree as a consumer of the sport.
I found the Roar much more entertaining in their opening games, they were more a pressing possession based team and were willing to show a bit of flair, all they were missing was a bit of composure in goal. They created a lot of chances, they just didn't put them away.
The flair is gone and they are much more pragmatic now.

Anyway speaking of Sydney, I dragged my ass down to see this after a day of work so we better win! Up the Sky Blues!
