Graham Arnold's Iraq thread

Solid timing for world cup nations to fine tune. Arnold didn't believe in friendlies but these games count for something.

Would be curious about any research on whether friendlies are valuable but I guess it's also considered training and conditioning.

was watching it live here in Saudi - was filling in my biz colleagues.
Whenever the camera zoomed back to Arnie I could he was stressing despite getting in front and winning in the end.
Going back to the bar to watch SA vs Comoros in an hour or so.
Got to say the Saudis luv their football no matter what we think of it here.

Saudi’s through that game with ease 2nd half.
As usual got some good players.
Impressed by the other mob having never heard or seen them before.

Watching Arnies team now vs Sudan.
Dam hectic both supporters going off.
Lots of over cooked play acting.
Sudan giving arnie boys trouble more chances mid first half.
0-0 ht

The intensity in this game is massive.
End to end
Sure they give the ball away a lot both sides but they throw themselves into it 110% it’s been entertaining 76min mark.
They both can’t finish the chances.
Can imagine arnies blood pressure popping

Graham Arnold ends up getting a 2-0 win with Iraq over Sudan in their second Arab Cup group game, next game for them is against Algeria to decide who tops the group.

Graham Arnold and 10-man Iraq lose 2-0 to defending champions Algeria in their last Arab Cup group game, but still qualify for the quarterfinals after coming second in group D, where they'll face Jordan.

Tough game. Well matched these days with Jordan probably favoured. It will be close and may go either way. Expect it to be low-scoring.

yer been interesting viewing watching this whilst here.
The support whilst in shi sha bars in Riyadh and now sports pars in Dubai depending the nation is very passionate.
No matter the nation there's people supporting.
Some of the football isn't bad thats for sure.

What a scuff!

WTF have I just watched?!?!?!

Took me a couple viewings to work out which team was which and what happened.

Surely the upshot of that sequence was the Bahrain (in red) was awarded an indirect free kick on the 6 yard box line for the keeper handling a back pass?

Oh hang on. Now I've watched the replays he actually wanted to pass it back and has hit it high. Comical either way.

Imagine in the dressing after and also re watching your replays hahab

Graham Arnold and Iraq knocked out of the Arab Cup in the quarterfinals, losing 1-0 to Jordan at Education City Stadium. Next match for them will be the World Cup qualifying playoff grand final against Suriname or Bolivia in April 2026.
