2026 Australia Cup final rounds thread

"Newy mongrel" is a great description, he gives it his all. His contribution was hugely under rated last season and I think it is that "mongrel" that means people often overlook his skills.

I really have no idea. I think those who watch the final at 5am - 8am on a Monday morning are football fans. I struggle to see (or understand why) that (a) there is a large number of those people who are football fans that would not watch the Socceroos games (inc. games that were on at a decent...

Assuming IRL means International Rugby League, good old Wikipedia tells me the 2021 final was on Fox Sports only, with a viewership of 150,000 people. As a side note, I don't know what to make of the fact that more people in Australia tuned into the world cup final than the Socceroos games.

For comparison, the highest ever reach for an NRL grand final is 6.4m and AFL grand final is 6.1m, state of origin highest ever reach is 6.0m.

General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2026/27 season

Horrible draw for the Jets , no home games between 31 October and 9 January. and then SEVEN straight home games. Hard to build fan engagement with 2.5 months between home games. I appreciate it is not the fault of the club or APL, and rests purely at the feet of the quality of local politicians...

It is so shit / boring. Over it. Every year they repeat the same thing. Sydney derby week 1 is also a waste. I wish we had the facilities to do a random draw without having to worry about 10 million stadium conflicts. As for TV, if I interpret the above correctly, there is no set timesleot...

That is a pretty big caveat to add in, but fair. I am of the view that football is the largest sport, in terms of participation and interest, in Australia. Where the comparisons go astray is to try and assign popularity of a sport, to the popularity of a competition. You can do it for sports...

It apparently is every time... Just trying to figure out where the growth is apparently coming from. Cannot see it being from NSW or QLD. Not seeing it in the younger demographics. Is it Melbourne / Adelaide / Perth?

    Australian transfers 26-27 Summer

How? It is clear nepotism. He is a decent player, and good luck to him, but for the season he has had (solid / decent, but not standout) there is no justification for (a) his selection in the squad over other better performing players and (b) the amount of minutes he got in the World Cup, again...
