Boring to watch? Nah it was so impressive to see Spain's press and you can literally see them squeeze the life out of their opponents. Like they were literally marking man for man Argentina's backline throughout the game as either Martinez or a defender had the ball trying to find any option...
Spain score a winner. They are celebrated as one of the most dominant teams in history and for playing the most controlled world cup finals ever. Looked back on by history with greatness.
They lose this..... seen as a joke.
The fine margins of football lol.
I mean this game this morning.... England sitting back, Argentina with all the possession and all the shots.
Compared to against Cabo Verde. A team who's value is like a hundred million times less than this English team. Sure they have to sit back in periods of the game but they ATTACKED...
Those commentators this morning you could feel their desperation when they saw this angle and were like "Messi.... I think he's offside you know." And kept bringing up that they were checking the goal.
Irvine, Ryan, Behich will soon be gone from their playing days.....
Man time passes by so fast. Players like Irankunda were not even alive when we beat Uruguay on pens to qualify.
2006 won't even be the motivation for our players anymore or the benchmark to aspire to. They will no longer have...
We go on about Pim with no striker against Germany to this day and Poppa plays without a striker in 3 of our 4 games. The only game we score is with an actual striker starting and leading the line.
I've calmed down quite a bit.
Defence first? Fine. Haram football? Fine. But man put our best player in his best position and play to his strenghts.
I really feel that If Irankunda plays on the wings and Yengi or Toure start, we score multiple times and win against Egypt. They were so beatable.
I'll have to find the article again but Volpato mentioned that he and Irankunda have been friends for a while and been keeping in contact with each for atleast a year.
If Toure has been carrying a slight injury we should be starting Yengi. Yengi has been low key pretty great in the moments he's been on and would have been a much better option to hold up play than Irankunda.
Penalty shootout... whatever.
The preceding 120 minutes......
We get what we deserve.
We played for the lottery of the shootout and lost out. Coin toss goes our way and we're infront of the Aussie fans? Maybe we win.
Just so disappointing we didn't bother to win in the 90 and we play for...
Really feel we got through the group stage because of the talent we have and despite Poppa's tactics....
We look a better team when we are forced to get out of gameplan lol.
Irankunda as the lone striker..... what a waste.
It stings cause this game...... we could have won and not only won but...
I don't care how composed and calm Herrington is. The coaching staff and the senior players should step in and say no man, let someone else take this on.
Failure from our leadership there. He's never been in this pressure before you can't put that on him.
It's just.....
Irankunda is OUR BEST ATTACKER. He's a talent the like we have not seen in so long. He has an x factor and can literally score from anywhere and make a dribble and with some space he can beat ANYONE.
And instead of building of building our attack/counter attack BUILDING the team...
And honestly... I am more happy that Salah is starting. If the dude is carrying a little niggle than chances are he's going to get less influence on the game as it goes on and may even have to be taken off for more fresh legs.
Salah coming on in the 60th minute...... fuck that would make me...
Toure option off the bench is great option to have looking on the bright side of things. Irankunda should hopefully find more space tonight than against defence first Paraguay.
Was walking my dog this afternoon and passed by a field with a bunch of kids playing and kicking a ball around with their dad and having a great time. Sun was low on the horizon basking the whole field with light.
I took it as a pretty damn great omen for tomorrow.
Irvine should start this game. I believe we need his experience but also his runs into the box and goalscoring threat.
Irvine has the most goals for the socceroos in this current squad.......
GRIM FINDING BUT LETS GO IRVINE
To be fair for as good as our attacking talent is I do believe that our absolute best players are our are defense. Before the tournament I said that our backline really was the best it's been since 2006 and I stand by that. Souttar, Circati, Herrington, Bos. Fantastic players. Italiano out is a...
Got mine thank fuck fucking ticketek kicked me out but got back and still had my place in queue.
And yeah pretty much completely sold out already. 10 minutes after I got mine no more options to buy at any price.
Bosnia. Maybe the worst team of the knockouts so far.
Sweden... even they looked decent with some shots before France turned it on. South Africa DID show promise against Canada but their tactics let them down.
Bosnia.... a man advantage but not only did they not concede.... they had absolute...
Red for me it was an accident but the dude not only stamps his foot but rakes his entire back leg with his studs on the way doing it lol. Such a clumsy play. The USA players weren't even complaining they knew that's a red.
Great game. Congo put in a valiant effort but were getting gassed and couldn't attack like they did in the first half.
Mexico should be licking their lips looking at this England side though and performance.
These smaller african nations really have surprised me in that they all have players who can turn their man and put in a really fantastic first touch allowing them the chance to counter and attack. Cape Verde were able to go to to toe with Uruguay using it also.
Look I predicted this. Lads it's England. They've been too competent for too long now, they are due for one of their England embarrassing crash outs that causes their media to fucking lose their minds.
So fucking good to get socceroos games in QLD and against Brazil of all nations! Brazil will be glad to get some practice against the reigning world champions.
TBH I think a lot of big teams are gonna get knocked on their face by the underdogs this tournament in the knockouts.
The big reason for me is the increased rest between games. The top nations before.... world class players in every position, world class players off the bench. While lesser...
Mexico at home.... they really could go far this world cup. At home they are going to be nigh unbeatable. Look at this atmosphere man...
Mexico and the USA I think are making the quarter finals at the very least. But would not surprise me to see one if not both of them in the semis.
