Are they paid during the off season though or are their contracts just dormant between seasons?

I think most ALW players are on single season contracts so I don’t know what ‘ falling out of contract’ actually means.

Does the FA track the wellbeing of Matildas players as they move forward in their careers or are they just left to deal with whatever happens. Football Australia are good at hyping players but I wonder what happens when a player is no longer on the ‘front page’.

I agree there is no easy answer, I was just trying to stimulate discussion on what options there might be.

I agree there are many ‘ifs and buts’ but somehow systems need to be put in place to address the slow development of young players.

Maybe it would be better if ALW clubs had teams in their respective state leagues, I know some do but I don’t think they use players from the ‘run on’ squads.
