The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Well if Sydney are loaded and CFG is clearly funded by a bottomless money pit, you've gotta ask yourself why they dont?

Aren't they ONLY interested in whats good for football in Australia? Haven't these middle eastern oil sheikhs and Russian gangsters declared an undying loyalty for Australia nd our way of life and want our national brand of football to dominate the world?

Both Sydney, but in particular Melbourne City are definately developing a decent crop of Aussie youngsters at the moment, maybe we will dominate the world in a few years times...

Oh the fabled "new crop" of youngsters.... how altruistic of them... wake me up when we have at least one starting in the top 5 in Europe... just one will do.

Probably not. If SBS were asked to pay for broadcasting the Championship this year, then I'd hazard a guess there's little chance it would have happened.....

I'd also hazard a guess that the reason SBS got it for free was because the only other broadcasting company that might have dipped their toe (Ch10/P+) didn't want it....

SBS's budget around $500m is made up of about 2/3rd's federal government funding and about 1/3rd commercial revenue.

SBS aren't that rich. It has a lot of things to cover and has to be extremely careful where it spends it's money......

If another broadcaster comes in and offers money for the Championship tv rights SBS will no doubt stand aside because at the end of the day, while they're there to produce tv and audio for the community they're not about getting into bidding wars with their commercial rivals.

Allowing SBS to broadcast it for free this time was the correct decision. If nobody else comes in that should continue.
Having SBS TV on board as a broadcast partner lends legitimacy to the competition and a platform to promote the clubs. In an ideal world, you'd love to see TV rights revenue, but in all honesty, just being on free to air is a massive benefit.

Let's hope SBS TV is on board for the full 5 years of the competition at least.

Like I said what group isn’t having issues or implosions today

Thats were I think you are wrong. I mean sure we have been the loudest voice in the room, but IF South was in the Aleague from 2005 do you honestly think clubs like Knights, Sydney United, Preston, Marconi would have just remained content to play state league forever? I dont.

34 (I think) clubs met in the AAFC phase to at least discuss the possibility of what a full pyramid would look like.... maybe it would have taken longer without the SMFC voice in the wilderness but it still would have been driven by one of the other 33 clubs I reckon.
I think so 100%.

Souths were pissed Western United got in over them (righly so of course), ever since then talk of a second division escalated.

Look at the AFL, just got the Fed Gov to pay a billion for the Tassie team.

Look at Perth, NRL got State Gov to pay for Perth team.

How and Why? Because they are all united.

Hahahahaha so what you are saying is NO South No Championship????
If it was a simple as letting South in to the the Aleague and closing the door behind us to the other ex NSL clubs the Aleague would have done it years ago..... they didn't.
AS much as it is flattering to think that outsiders believe we have that much clout, its very disrespectful to the other clubs and I dont buy it..
We were a very loud voice but by no means the ONLY one.

I remember hearing grumblings about a national pro/rel as far back as 2008-9 a decade before Western United even dreamt of a shovel. :)

APL is united just like the other two mate..... actually EXACTLY like the other two, why cant they get anything?

Surely you cant also blame THAT on South Melbourne and the "efnikz"... forget about us (as if you haven't for the past 20 years) and lobby for your own 6 billion stadium, we wont get in the way, promise...

The time for begging is over Grazor... Let the APL live or die by its own sword I say.
well whether you want to use the word lobby or beg, what would you suggest
there is always a chance that without lobbying we have the a league chugging along 20 years from now with a huge vote on the apl board without lobbying to pry things open
