Irvine, Beach and Trewin the only players who have probably come out of this window with their reputations enhanced.

McGree was fine. O'Neill better tonight.

If our only two wide players are our fullbacks, they need to be better than who they are at the moment. Rowles and Miller, whilst fine tonight, aren't moving the needle. Elder I don't think is good enough. Really hope Bos is fit and firing next June. And that someone comes to sure up that RWB position.

We seriously need to unlock the front three and fullbacks much much more. Chasing the game, we are not going to do any damage.
Don't see what else Elder can do when the system wants the ball the be held and no one is forward. He and Bos are natural gliders and it's stifled. Popovic will feel vindicating in dropping those with easy excuses now.

1st and 3rd I agree, I think he was set up by some poor defending on the 2nd one. I'm not convinced he is our 1st choice but none of the goals were his fault and I don't think anyone else we have would have done better.
Ryan either heads or foots the second one or stays back and the defence disrupts the shot. The third one is pot luck and there's harsh assessment when the keeper does well to get anything to the initial header.

Wasted all this time on certain regulars without exploring viable alternatives. Either way Popovic will pick whoever he wants with his own reasons and now we're definitely wedged with a shaky team and a system that isn't working.

This is edging closely to as bad as under BVM.

Typical arrogance and rudeness from Popa in post-match interview with Del Monte. Honestly he's hopeless. Team isn't set up for success, exactly as the panel have said. Devlin must be filthy.
I thought Devlin would get some time in this match. Bad call. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes himself unavailable next window.

I think this system's sweet spot is against teams like Canada, Japan, Korea, African teams, who we'd happily give up the ball to but don't have the ruthlessness of your top 15 nations.

Against rubbish teams we'd probably be fine but they will also frustrate us going forward like Venezuela.

Strong teams will grind us down eventually like tonight.

It's really really dire watching us move the ball forward.

But if we are worse at passing the ball than NZ, Indonesia, China and saiudi arabia and even worse than Barhrain (2nd half)

Maybe only teams like Nepal or chinese taipei we can be better at passing tue ball.

Its not fun for the fans watching at all. Its not even entertaining

We beat or have beaten all of those teams convincingly. The passing game actually had some better periods tonight but there's a lot to work on. O'Neill seemed steadier. Probably knowing he can sleep in his own bed tonight.

Time to fuck Popa off and get ourselves a real coach.
Has to be a foreigner of good(not necessarily world-class per se) standard too; it’s time for the FFA to end its stingy/parochial experiment w/locals at the Socceroo helm for the foreseeable future💡

I can remember in the 80s and 90s we used to attack full on from the kick off, through the likes of Patikas, Mitchell, Farina, Vidmar etc.
That was dismissed as naive.
So now we don't attack at all.
Perhaps we should return to the old way?
Those guys/their teammates were more cultured ⚽️-wise than their current counterparts; they were typically better@ improvising under pressure too(brain-fades in crunch WC-qualifiers aside)

Having seen all four ar CCM and then following them. Ryan is first - daylight second then Beach (but not really tested at a high level) - then Gauci - then Izzo. Haven't really seen some of the young OS ones. But Izzo
isn't the answer and never was. A wasted selection like Caceres and Brattan.

Tbh that is not based off today but generally. He didn't have a great day but the defence did him no favours. As long as no one thinks Bucket Boy is the answer.

I don't think Poppa should get the ass from these results, Theres still a few players to come back and we have seen how some players are just not up to it from these matches.

Worse. He was in the last 32. Poppa is yet to do that.

well - can't wait for the stats fellas dress up this performance in 5sec intervals haha
Oh Toure got a good ball within first 5 or so and I was glad he made their GK make the save, wouldn't have happenned with Boyle/Duke/Borello etc so kudos to him, shame he's played like a poor lone soldier for this kid has so much promise I like what I see but yer, he's not supported period and we see why.
Poor Irakunda runs around like a headless in desperation, you can see it he's trying his arse to make something but he's chasing shadows.

We are getting very good at small sided games camped in our own half ! JS96.

Prior to the late 2 goals I was gonna say bit earlier, don't think Columbia got out of 2nd gear really, did we plant a shot on goal in the 2nd half ? hence they cruised that 2nd half for they know how to keep ball, they have players who can do it.
How many times did we make it deep into their own half ?
The other point is considering we let them have so much ball we made them look good, lucky they lacked alot of decent final ball for if they did find their last man it would have been 5 before the late goals.
Some pages back someone mentioned Mooy - as we know every solid decent team has a general or 2 let alone players who can see its about moving the ball forward and have support - am I missing something ? for lets face it Ven/Columbia are not world beaters but they have players who one touch, war pass, trap or angle balls one touch, runners off the ball player, importantly they look forward even when they do pass back but it sticks.

Goodness gracious me - I don't expect brilliance, I have to remind myself its 7mths out before WC opener - we got this :)
arnieball poppaball - seriously I'd luv to see IF were better than this its 2025/26 - we always got bagged out by so many not making the Cup pre GG, its not pretty I can only HOPE the planets align June 26, what others may not think ahead - what IF Bos or Circati for eg get injured pre CUP, think about it.

Regardless of what coach we have, the current crop of players is just not good, can't be that difficult to understand surely.

There are also better players he won't pick or picks and gives no time. But the Sydney youth gets another run. No plan to win a game only to try and minimise losses. But the way he sets up gives little chance of that. So little chance of a top 2 and because of the lack of attacking intent we could struggle for a better 3rd.

I think he was expecting the defence to deal with it and flick it back to him. When they didn't he tried to come out and distract the attacker which was pretty much the only option he had left apart from letting the attacker get the ball easily and place it past him. I haven't seen a replay but I think that one was poor defending rather than poor goalkeeping.
