This is the standard Popovic pattern of play. Sit deep, suffocate them in the back third, and hope to score on the break. Very frustrating. We have players there who can do much more than this.

So the question is why the FA accept this? Clearly this style just holds back the talent we got coming through as well.

We certainly aspire. The issue is we get on the pitch with poor coaching coaches and tactics. A lot of the players are in worse roles.

This is a friendly so we're learning very quickly what isn't viable. Let's not flatter NZ too much. This is reminiscent to the Brisbane friendly. Good at getting the ball and a firm pass but they're not the biggest on ideas and their squad is also highly competitive for the world cup. Many of our current 11 think they're already going.

Its the same dross we have seen with Arnie as well, I can’t recall at time we ever played an attractive style of football especially at home probably under Ange but that’s him not a national team directive.

I just think we can aspire to be more than this, I saw the Australia u20s play at the Asian cup I think it was the best football I’ve seen an Australian play in Asia.
So the potential is there.

I don't like Popovic's selections, I don't like his tactics, and it don't like his attitude. He got the job because he was the only last man standing who was cheap enough and like everything in life, you gets what you pay for for.

And now, despite the young talent we have, we can look forward to a dismal World Cup finals.
