Boutique stadiums Australia

You think so?

30k is okay for Newcastle, half full and that place is rocking.
The problem is we haven’t even had it come anywhere close to half full for years. Last time we cracked the 10k mark was vs Sydney in April 2019.

Dream would be for No.2 Sportsground to be developed into a “Hindmarsh” type stadium with a 12-14k capacity. I can’t see the funding ever come through though.

Also a crying shame the old Breakers stadium quite literally went to the dogs and became a greyhound track.

Yeah, although to be fair, the team has been a basketcase on the field for years now.

Let’s be real, a basket case both on AND off! New owners doing good things and future looks bright but will take a while to win people back.

Newcastle loves a winner so bringing the cup home would help a bit.

Every time I go there, I think Macquarie Field at Speers Point is crying out to be a boutique 10-15k stadium, similar to the plans for Leichhardt Oval at the moment. Being right next door to the NNSW facilities (which are brilliant) and Jets offices would be great. Not to mention I think it would be easier to get the support for something like this from Lake Mac council than Newcastle Council for, say, an upgrade to No.2 Sports Ground. I really could picture families going to the Park / playground there before the game and making a good afternoon of it.

In re to Aust Cup final, it should not be played in Newcastle (and I am a Jets fan). The rules around member clubs getting home grounds keeps the competition interesting. It should always be a pre-season tournament for the A-League clubs and a chance for the lower level semi-professional clubs to shine on a bigger stage. Further, who knows, but I really cannot see the crowd exceeding 7k (i.e. a regular Jets crowd). I have hardly picked up much hype locally for it, it is not getting much attention in local media. At that level, and the cost to hire the stadium, it seems hardly a financial windfall to the FA to let the Jets host it.

The cost of the ground hire is on the FFA.

I live about 2km from Macquarie Field and drive past it almost everyday. It’s getting a fairly underwhelming refurb at the moment - I always thought it should have been turned into the “centrepiece” of the LMRFF and used for important local games but instead seems to just be getting a new pitch and a pissweak little grandstand.

The drawbacks to Macquarie Field are access and parking as well as being so close to the waters edge flooding is a real possibility.

far out how cool would be watching games at any these type of grounds.
Mono, considering Sutho's/NCB's pics I can picture roads close for parking, where do you park there ????
or you boat and swim to shore ? :)
hahaha its a village team's ground mate... I think 4th division or even lower. Just looked really cool, a cousin of mine visited once and watched a game... there were kids down on the beach fighting each other to swim out to get the ball everytime a shot went over the bar...

Some of the dreams.

Dandenong Stadium:

An idea I like for Dandenong Stadium, based on VTB Arena. Football and rugby on one pitch, basketball and ice hockey amongst others nextdoor (surely this puts the feasibilty throught the roof). It would be the centre for top-end sport in the south-east:

A stadium the size of Hindmarsh overlaid onto the North Hobart Oval site, a perfect fit. Also, it wouldn't need to be 16,000 seats:

No way North Hobart oval is turned into a Rectangular venue. AFL would never allow it. No point in even asking the question.

10k Hobart stadium built down near the basketball venue is best bet. Plenty of open space there

Do AFL own North Hobart Oval?
Whereabouts is that basketball venue, up near the Glenorchy racecourse?

Pretty sure its a council ground that has had Australian rules played on it for 170 years. No chance it happens.

Yep, the basketball stadium is in Glenorchy next to the racecourse. Thats the place to be.

You used to draw decent crowds.

Welcome to the forum, GI.

Lucky man, Kythira is one of the last, untouched by tourism spots in Europe... and a qucik ferry trip from Kalamata :) I hope you've visited mate... it really is lovely.

Yeh, I went a few years ago. If it had a football team, I could see myself living there. I spent some time in the Peloponnese region before going to Kythira.
