2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

I had thought for some time that the NSW and Vic NPL teams were roughly the same standard. Having watched a lot of the Australia cup games and NSW NPL games the one thing that has changed my opinion is the form of the Vic clubs. The performance by the Vic teams this season seem well above the NSW teams.

The CCM Academy side is basically an U20 side and their U20 side is basically an U18 side. They play the foundation eight in the NSW NPL. In the first half of the young squad only got 4 points from 15 against these sides and looked like they were nailed on for relegation. In the second half they have gotten 7 points from 15 and now sit 2 points above the relegation zone and 4 points above the automatic relegation spot with 2 rounds to go.

7 points against the 5 foundation 8 clubs from NSW in the second half of the season by a virtual U20 sides certainly puts in question the strength of the NSW NPL while the runs of Avondale and Heidelburg in the Australian Cup confirms the strength of the Vic NPL.

Also as an aside there's quite a large Greek contingent up there. Estimated at 10 thousand or so and all, mostly, from Kalymnos.

My brother visited last year and was amazed at how many old Greek fishing and pearl diving businesses there where... Kalymnos is/was a big sponge diving island so makes sense they all came to Aus to seek their fortunes... must visit one day (both places, Ive never been to Kalymnos either).

Lol... There is a fairly well off family up there which share a surname with us (no relations, totally different parts of Greece), my brother handed over his credit card at the hotel and reckons the clerk did a double take and bumped him up to a suite free of charge....

He was living the champagne life on a beer budget for a couple of days.... I MUST visit....

2 big Greek soccer clubs there. Hellenic and Olympic. I played for Casuarina first which were a bunch of Timorese blokes and then for NT University which came in as a new starter. (I was on the committee and a player.)

Our team was 3/4s Greek and full of blokes all united by their hatred of Olympic and Hellenic.

The GF I played in against Olympic, which we lost 3-1, had 9 yellow cards dished out and 3 reds.

Just a run of the mill match.

They're a bit nuts there though. Whole families have been banned from the football due to crowd trouble and referee abuse. Olympic were booted out of the comp in 2020 because the referees said if they're in, we're out.

I played in the late 90s.

I saw the Darwin Olympic fans against Nuna the other week in the Australia Cup... 35 degree heat, 99% humidity and they were wearing balaclavas.... hahahahaha

They were probably just tropic cooked regulars trying to find out why so many people talk up baklava.

Yeah auckland are very strong but alex grant made a big difference to sfc last year so lets see

I tipped Auckland and find myself incomprehensibly leaning slightly towards the evil SFC.

In my defence, alien abduction of both teams would have been my preferred tip if it was available.
 
With the semi next weekend i havent seen anything from either of these teams that will trouble heidelberg
