Aussies abroad 🌍🦘

Bit of love on the Portsmouth forum for Segecic - the Aussie Messi as they're calling him.

Most had him MOTM in their friendly overnight.

It's going to be a lot of fun watching the young Aussie strikers this season. There's a real need in the National Team and it's a time of transition. Or should be.

Waddingham, Botic, Sapsford, Yengi bros, Toure bros, Irankunda, Segecic, Milanovic, Stametelopoulos, Arzani, Drew, Tilio and Carter. It's a battle right across the front 3 so seeing who hits form will be interesting.

Sapsford, Waddingham, Botic and Segecic have already scored in preseason. The fight has started.

Toure scores a pen he might have won it

Peupion starts

Just as a reminder about McLaren's overall quality because sometimes fans seem to forget how good he was. Per Wikipedia, "Maclaren is a five time A-League Golden Boot winner as A-League top scorer in 2016–17 (19 goals), 2019–20 (22 goals), 2020–21 (25 goals), 2021–22 (15 goals), and 2022–23 (24 goals). With 154 goals across 3 clubs, Maclaren is the A-League's all time top goalscorer, Melbourne City's all time top goalscorer.". Yes, he scored a lot if tap-ins, no doubt. He also scored a heap of goals that weren't tap ins. His goalscoring ratio of 0.70 is also higher than anyone else in the top 10 including Berisha, Fornaroli, Archie, etc.

O'neill is overrated.

No sizzle, no steak.

The bloke literally made a career off the first 3 games of his career
Respectfully disagree, Huddo.

At the same you've made a lot of good points re football in general lately.

I've assiduously compiled stats slowly for the Socceroos in all the last games. O'N is a really good ball winner. He wins a lot of 1v1s - tackling, steals, heading duels, shoulder barges and body on body contact contests.

Also, O'N is tidy on the ball with his left right and right left, receiving in with one foot and passing with the other, with pretty quick handling speed. Plus he is very two side of the body proficient. It is hard for opponents to force him onto a weaker side of the body or weaker foot.

Mac has done very well in the AL.

He has relied on effective attacking interplay play by team-mates to get the ball to him at both Roar and Melb City.
