Aleague had the highest broadcasts rights in history of football in this country, must have done something right
hey, give me Lowys budget at the time and model I could sell ice to the eskimos.
Sure was no high bar to beat re broadcast rights in history - what was right was that there was nothing like it and proposing a model backed by Fox sure isn't hard roping in Hyundai and the likes.
Business wise/approach not hard, sustaining the business is/was the key and the investors have walked.
So much for something right do you think working the same model again will work ?
Suppose IF you got Beckham or the Arabs get behind it keep throwing $$'s into it like MLS but we're nothing like the mericans and 27M is hardly worth pouring $'s in years in year out otherwise the current APL shop owners barring MC would keep pouring their $'s in.
Hello BR, hello most of them.
Its history now biggie - yep alot more money came into fabricating a new promotion, promotions always have Use By Dates eh, now next to the NSL demise both have in common.

It’s not about supporting one or two clubs financially it’s about the financial viability of the league as a whole.
The A League is on ‘life support’ why do we want to have the NST also struggling to pay the bills?
The argument that we should just GO NOW regardless doesn’t make sense.
If sense is what we are looking for then its only logicql that If that league is on life support then scrap it, cut away the dead wood, and apply the NST clubs under a new combined format perhaps!

Killing one off to save the other (which seems to be the end game) which is already clinically dead is sure as hell not the solution!

This is what I don't get.

Clubs in the Aleague have crowds of say 4k, and its "dire".

There will be clubs in the NSD, such as Avondale who will be lucky to get a couple hundred.

Lets actually have self-sustainable clubs, rather than focus on crowds.
imagine they got everyone's p/r wet dream and got promoted to the a league - they wouldn't last a season.

You know why Kingsway submitted a bid?

Massive injection of $$$ past couple of years out of nowhere. Similar to Preston, toying away in lower leagues for years and suddenly they get cash and they are up and about.

They lucky to have 100 people on any given Saturday.

Better of starting a new club, and building connections with local community.
Bc we have all seen how well "the new franchises type club" have fared over and over again!

You cant tell me all of WA and no club firs the criteria of a solid fan base, home ground with low overheads and cash generation?

Even if the case is such as you describe, perhaps if they do fit the funding criteria its only a case of build it and they will come as they did last night!

Doesn't matter if you had Bayswater, Stirling, Azzuri or Kingsway against Victory, you will always get a larger crowd for one of events.

Current NPLWA/football in this state is unfortunately dead.

Like I mentioned the other day, Floreat Athena, once a power house club, is on its knees about to be relegated, and somehow, even with the massive Greek contingent in this city, nobody is willing to save it.

Azzuri, also a former powerhouse, is a shadow of what it was only 10 years ago.

The "ethnicity" which was the driving force of football in these clubs is this state in now non existant, hence why only a new club trying to bring everyone together is the only option.

Its funny bc all.of a sudden "sustainability and feasability" are the buzz word for all those from that brought us the likes of WU and all those other gems that are have done or are doing so well...

But hey, lets keep applying the same criteria of the failing aleague to the new comp bc that will work out fantastically!

A league was working until that snake gallop screwed us then Townsend twisted the knife more

Destination NSW apparently paid somewhere between $12m and $20m for 3 grand finals (later changed to unite rounds). That is between $4m and well on the way to $7m a season.

The FA is after $1m seed money from the Fed govt and each of the NSW and and Vic governments. Surely a commitment from each of the other state governments to commit to $500,000 guarantees (which may never be needed) should be able to be negotiated by the FA and State Federations in collaboration with whichever clubs is wanting to enter. The spur for tourism (with 3 Vic clubs and 5 NSW clubs) should be a no brainer for the SA government. Even if they had to pay the guarantee they would get tourists for 8 games that would cost between $0 and $62,500 per game. Not an outrageous outlay for what income would come into for the state would come from those 8 weekends. Certainly much more appealing to the tax payer than a guaranteed $4m - almost $7m a year for one weekend.

its reads more like the game has been so disenfranchised since the AL commenced and everything went into the mighty glorified PG it created a all for 1 kind of atmosphere and directive.
What has the Fed been like in support performance/infrastructure the last 20yrs biggie/RoyalDave ?

If thats the case then they dont get an NST spot until they can prove otherwise and the rest take a smaller hit on travel costs!

Ideally writing them off from the get go is a little problematic for me, that is what im saying! It needs to be open and accessible to all that can fully buy in even if some trip and stumble and fall off along the way! Why should we not be able to do it that way when aleague is doing exactly the same? Why does our version need to be perfect to start as opposed to the aleague we so humbly hear how successful it remains?

I don’t think I used the example of A League clubs when I said that the Championship has to be sustainable from the word go.

this is a kind of small dawn kind of hopeful statement ?
Like Sutho quotes follow your Club not the regime - suits ruin alot of things but it doesn't drive everyone away MCG.
The decline was going to happen no matter Gallop or tim buck 2, this model can only survive by new franchise's and top $ broadcast deal/s.
Do you really think putting new shops in x y and z would keep this product going ? and weak turnstile sales.
It is not a fast food chain per say that caters for a massive audience, we are not usa with 390M people to draw on, our geography sucks re crowd numbers - cities are the go to mainly.

We'll never know but the crowds and ratings were the highest it's ever been. I'm happy to take criticism of the a league but you blokes have to admit at one point it was thriving it's when Rebecca Wilson and all that shite about crowd violence when it went tits up

hey no argument from me from its start to high and no matter Wilson/Gallop there was NO planB but to keep in the same line process.
A business as such today cannot live on one product, thats its prob plain as day and more complicated for the game is not a retail commodity its far more than that in the big picture.
I'm dealing with many business's that have/had changed their company DNA to expand their offerings otherwise your left behind.
AL/APL lifeline full stop period is the NPL and grass roots.
Then it could prosper (I'm not wishing for this unless they bent over big time :)) for the entire game on the same path.
That will enhance football interest, not using sales gimmicks, competition thats what its about.
