Aussies abroad šŸŒšŸ¦˜

I haven’t seen a lot of Triantis, but I’m surprised so many question that national coach, Popa, with all his experience rates Triantis ATM lower than a number of experienced players - and - a plethora of 23 and under players who play the same position.

Popa would use the following as criteria:

technique - broken down into 4 -5 specific areas;

Ball winning capacity - divided into 3 facets of play;

game sense - individually and ability to follow a team game plan;

football conditioning;

communication;

mental strength;

leadership.

Over 7 criteria players have strengths and weaknesses.

Popa has also seen Triantis play on the training track with and against current Socceroos. He can evaluate like for like.

I strongly believe that national coaches select national teams. Not coaches in foreign leagues - or - that some player agents make better decisions re club football for some players than others.

There are many club coaches, even in UEFA, who are totally removed from the requirements of international football.

With 18 points from 8 games and direct WCQ, Popa has the results .
Triantis's form should have been undeniable he was that dominant this season. To pick Brattan, Caceres and Teague ahead of him is illogical. I understand why Triantis may be miffed about it. I hope it hasn't pushed him away but it's hard to say it hasn't muddied things.

I think there is a lot of truth in that since he seems to want to implement a complicated style by international standards, but Teague is pretty good. If he plays regularly belgium at his age thats probably on par with triantis
but their profiles are very different so they wouldn't realy be competing with each other. I suspect Triantis is more competing with Irvine who has a more defensive profile but also chips in with goal contributions. I think he is also competing with Okon jr who would play a similar role

they both should definitely get regular minutes off the bench. If nothing else I think Irvine's injury was partially caused by burnout and we could have rested him more late in games

I'm not sure that's right that Irvine and Triantis are competing with one and other.

Popovic's favoured pairing is Irvine and O'Neill. O'Neill is very much in that DM mould.

If it's okay to pair Irvine and O'Neill it should be okay to also pair him with Triantis.

Which brings into question all those other CM's that were favoured - Brattan, Caceres, Teague.

Popovic has no patience for players in two minds regarding their national team allegiance. He also favours training form. I wonder if one or both have influenced Popovic's decision with Triantis.

I think Popovic needs check himself and his decision on this. It's a weaker team without Triantis imo and if we lose him long term it'll be a big mistake.

Tony has always been a hothead - even as a player. I can't see him second guessing himself. Even after he should have been sent off in the Uruguay game he questioned why Hiddink replaced him.

yeah probably keyboard warriors should try reverse psychology on him since he seems to get his back up haha

Totally overlooked Mainz have Conference League qualifying in some weeks. Hope they make it. That'll likely keep Bos at the club as it becomes a bigger campaign and some CL opponents are not the highest ranked so a good chance of game time.

have the signed any lbs yet?

No. They've got 3 right backs including a highly valued one, a veteran old head who could surely play left if needed and a 1.5m valued Austrian.

Not too sure about their versatility but there's emergency coverage. I still think they may get someone hovering on a free just got that extra cover.

Kye Rowles with a full game for DC United in a 5-2 loss to Nashville in the USA Open Cup Quarter-final. Patrick Yazbek with 7 minutes off the bench.

Martin Boyle with a goal and 29 minutes, Lewis Miller with a start and 32 minutes, Jack Iredale with a start and 61 minutes in a 3-2 win for Hibernian over Rot-Weiss Essen in a friendly.

No Giuseppe Bovalina for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Canadian Championship.

Musa Toure started for Randers in 1-2 friendly loss to second division Hobro. No Paul Izzo, Oliver Jones, Mo Toure.

No Alex Parsons for Cliftonville in a 2-2 draw with St Joseph's in a Conference League qualifier.

No Julian Schwarzer for Arema in a 2-2 with the Indoneasian All Stars in the Presdient's Cup.

Nick D'Agostino and Gianni Stensness still injured for Viking.

Bundesliga matchdays scheduled. St Pauli mostly on Germany Sky as I won't be paying extra for DAZN for Sunday this season.
