Poppa Out

Popovic going to deflect from the world cup and say the Brazil friendlies are more important now and the past is the past. Slightly right but he's dodged criticism.

I Read an article earlier that Bos is standing down as a Socceroo. Apparently some discension in the camp that has been going on during the qualifying phase as well as the World Cup. Sounfs like some of the older hard heads have been giving somr of the newer gus a hard time. Serious enough for Bos to call it out and retire from the Socceroos. This is disasterous.

Saw that too. Looked like AI click bait.

Holy fake

Holy fake
I hope it was fake. Ive since searched for it and cannot find it. Cannot find anything else that refers to it. I just saw it on the internet when I got home about 9pm and was busy at the time with other things. The article had supposedly been live for 5 hours at that time. Apologies to all concerned it appeared genuine.

There was another one about Maty Ryan disrespecting Popovic and Popovic saying he'll never play for him again.

The more I think about the more I think Poppa has to change the approach or he is sacked after the Brazil games.

This was Garriock when praising Popovic - hate to think what she would say if she was castigating him.

“I think when commentators and pundits talk about Australians, whether it’s men or women, at Senior or Youth International, it’s about we’ve always had a physical nature, we’ve had that mentality that is never say die, and it’s a character of being able to play until the end.

We don’t want to be just that. We want to make sure we can play football. We’ve got to have a defensive mindset within the Socceroos, which has been fantastic and that certainly worked for us. But creativity is really important; being adaptable, flexible and versatile is really important for the Australian way of playing.”

To me that is a direct warning to Popovic. The squad was set up to play one way, there was no flexibility. It he same happens against Brazil especially if we suffer heavy defeats I think the question becomes who goes first Popovic or Infantino.

I suspect the FA have already sounded out replacements post Asian Cup, but a continuation of the same from Popovic in September coupled with heavy losses brings that forward. At the end of the day Popovic will not change.

Ex
Yeah, it's kind of what I was getting at.
It's a cultural thing, the English prioritise physical attributes above everything, Matty Ryan is to short for a keeper, Messi would never get in an English team because he would be to short. Even though it's their imports that provide the technical abilities in the Prem, they still need to fulfill some crazy arbitrary physical limits.
So their English teams are filled with elite physical athletes who do the basics very well, they lack the flair and creativity of the more technical nations, because of their priority to physicality.
I guess the ideal would be to possess both, but it's a blockage in the English culture.
For us it's become a lucky dip and see what comes out in the wash it seems and in regards to Poppa, it doesn't preference the more technical players, as defensive first rely more on those physical attributes more than not. So the question I think needs asking is, is this coaching philosophy going to advance us, or is it what we want to pursue as a nation?
Exactly, which is why they all hate Neymar, because hes so thin.

I think this is clutching at straws. The Popa hatred is strong and people can't believe it isn't universal.
Results can always change things. But the Brazil matches are happening because of the commercial windfall. I think there is zero desire to change coach until after the AC at the absolute earliest.

We will find out in time. I'll be happy to admit if I was wrong.

I lean more positive than negative on poppa (but do see some negatives) but even if he was the worlds greatest coach I hope he doesn't stay after the asian cup. We saw with Arnie how hard it is to coach through 2 cycles

That was a very damning positive assessment by Garriock and I'm sure a number of post Asian Cup managers have been sounded out (though not strictly legal in some cases).

It basically said change or die.

I can see him hanging on with the same style post Brazil if he gets results - but I doubt he gets an extension past the Asian Cup. He will not change his style and lack of flexibility - he has always been a dour manager. The Brazil games just bring forward an alternate timeline and pay for his payout and maybe the buyout of the replacement.

wtf tbh…..
Here we have the FA post this summary down in LinkedIn.
Seriously ?!
Talk about taking the easy root.
You’d think being the countries NT playing in the biggest comp this would worthy distributed to the major media channels/press for all to see.
Not the tarting corporate FB LinkedIn.
And look at the admiring posting comments for her.
Makes me puke.

I’m sure they can do better than post on LinkedIn, come on!

The whole World Cup drew Australia’s attention and they waited 2 weeks after the World Cup to say something?

Not good enough, the bar is raised now it’s time to take action.
If only we had competent media asking hard questions, it’s not good enough just to be at the World Cup we want to take the next step so the ambition has to be matched from the top.
